Sunday Night Football Ratings

Ratings: Sunday Night Football Kickoff Game Down a Tick From 2015

NBC Sunday Night Football‘s Super Bowl rematch kickoff game drew 23.3 million total viewers and an 8.5 demo rating on Thursday night, down a tick from the preliminary numbers for last year’s Patriots/Steelers match-up.

Last year’s SNF opener went on to record 27.4 mil and a 10.3 in finals, just shy of the record set in 2010 by Saints/Vikings.

Opposite the game, CBS’ Big Brother (5.5 mil/1.7) ticked up a bit week-top-week, while the penultimate episode of The CW’s Beauty and the Beast (710K/0.2) was steady.

NEXT THURSDAY: Thursday Night Football premieres on CBS.
ON SEPT. 22: Grey’s Anatomy, Rosewood, Superstore, Chicago Med, The Blacklist and How to Get Away With Murder all return.

Sunday night? As in last night? When did Thursday get renamed?

    • KLS says:

The All-Mighty NFL even has the power to rename days. Can we get time & half for working on Thursday, I mean, Sunday?

    • dan says:

I didn’t understand it either. NFL fans know that Thursday night games are now being played on either CBS or NBC for the first 8 or 10 weeks of the season. Why not just call the shows “Thursday Night Football on NBC” and “Thursday Night Football on CBS”? Why call NBC’s show “Sunday Night Football” when its clearly Thursday night?

      • KLS says:

Maybe it was the “Sunday Night Football” crew which called the Thursday night game? I can’t see how it’s a copyright thing. The NFL network coined, maybe owned “Thursday Night Football”. It should have been named what you suggested: “Thursday Night Football on NBC”. They are making it overly complicated and confusing.

The Houston Texans play today they hold you went through your whole pregame show and didn’t say a single word about the win or anything that’s a bunch of crap
