Heathers Pilot Ordered at TV Land

What’s the up-chuck factor on this: TV Land is moving forward with plans to turn Heathers into a TV series.

The cabler on Tuesday announced that it has formally greenlit a pilot for a half-hour, single camera series based on the 1988 cult classic, which starred Winona Ryder and Christian Slater. TV Land says it will “reimagine” Heathers as a present-day anthology series, with each season focusing on a different heroine and a new set of mean girls.

Terriers scribe Leslye Headland is on board to direct the pilot, which begins shooting later this fall.

THR.com first reported the news.

UM…didn’t they do this last year?

    It’s called Scream Queens.

F*** me gently with a chainsaw, this is a horrible idea.

No no no no no no no!

  4. Ron says:

Ugh. Just…ugh. I have no words for how unfortunate and terrible this idea is.

  5. A. D. says:

Heathers was a great movie…this sounds horrid!

    Is nothing sacred?

    Dear Hollywood,

Please stop destroying my childhood. See also : ‘Jem!’

    Thank you.

    Very sincerely yours,
    A child of the 80’s/90’s

  8. Gern Blanston says:

Yayyyyy. More mediocre 80’s properties being remade so that people can complain about their childhoods being destroyed.

  9. Rahajicho says:

And the originality train just keeps rolling through the industry. I’d like to go one day without seeing the words “revival,” “remake,” or “reboot” in a headline.

    • Dude says:

Yeah but your “Hollywood is out of original ideas” rant is about as original as they are so maybe TV networks aren’t the only ones who need to change things up.

  10. SoFla says:

No, just no. so tired of these 80s remakes. In this instance imitation is far from the sincerest form of flattery as not one of them has done justice of the original, far from it in fact. Why are there no fresh, new ideas to put on the air or in theaters nowadays? Sad.

  11. LynnH says:

There’s no point to this. Plus, only one actor can play JD, and he’s a little busy doing something else right now. Enough with the remakes.

  12. Lauren says:

That sounds terrible. Just tape the amazing musical adaptation and air that.

  13. jj says:

there’s barely any information about the show yet, how could it possibly ‘sound terrible’ already

  14. QueenB says:

If done correctly this could work. I love Heathers and I think this could work they need a writer with a distinct voice like Whedon though

  15. Jared says:

Why does this need to be an anthology series?!?..seems so pointless to me.
