Emmys Poll 2016: Who Should Win Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy?

For Emmy voters, the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series race may ultimately be a choice between Allison Janney and Hillary Clinton.

Janney, of course, isn’t competing against the real HRC. Instead, she’ll face Saturday Night Live impersonator Kate McKinnon. Should the Not Ready for Primetime Player defeat Janney, she’d be the first female SNL cast member to walk away with a statuette since — get this — the late Gilda Radner in 1978. Should Janney snag the coveted award, it’ll be her third consecutive win for Mom.

Janney and McKinnon won’t be the only familiar Emmy faces competing for a supporting actress accolade on Sept. 18. They are joined by Getting On‘s Niecy Nash (her second consecutive nomination) and Veep‘s Anna Chlumsky (in the running for a fourth year). Gaby Hoffmann is also up for her second nom, but may split the vote with Transparent matriarch Judith Light who, believe it or not, has only ever been nominated in the Outstanding Guest Actress field for her work on Ugly Betty. The veteran stage and screen actress is the only nominee who wasn’t part of this particular race in 2015.

What would you do if you had the opportunity to recognize one of these supporting actresses when the Emmys are handed out on Sept. 18? Take our poll below to vote for your favorite, then hit the comments to defend your pick.

For the last couple of weeks, TVLine has asked you to weigh in on who should win this year’s most sought-after Emmys. If you missed any of our previous polls, click here. (And for a complete list of nominees, click here.)

Comments are monitored, so don’t go off topic, don’t frakkin’ curse and don’t bore us with how much your coworker’s sister-in-law makes per hour. Talk smart about TV!

  1. ABG. says:

Allison Janney is the heart and soul of Mom.

  2. Kevin K says:

Allison Janney will and should win but I’m going to be shocked if Kate McKinnon pulls out an upset.

  3. opus says:

Is it really unfair for Allison Janney to win this award again when she should be in the best actress category? Yes. Did I vote for her anyway? YES!

    • Rebecca Parker says:

Haha exactly my thought process. She is hands down a lead, but she’s so amazing I want her to win anyway!

    • Jakay says:

She is the lead. She already has about a hundred Emmys. Time to move into the category she belongs in and give somebody else a chance.

you are in reality a excellent webmaster. The web site loading pace is amazing.
It seems that you’re doing any unique trick. In addition, The
contents are masterwork. you’ve performed a fantastic task in this matter!

  5. JosiahBartlet4President says:

I have to give it to Allison Janney. One of the greatest actors of our time.

  6. Ron says:

Janney is always great, despite the role. But my vote goes to Chlumsky, with Nash a close second. Reasoning: Janney is a lead, not supporting. Call me a stickler. McKinnon is the bright spot of SNL, hands down. But she’s dealt with the blow of extreme inconsistency because the SNL writers are horrible. And I’ve said it before, and will continue to say it, Transparent is NOT a comedy!!! A couple funny moments here and there does not a comedy make. Does the Academy think dramas can’t be 30 minutes? It has to be something, because the show is so obviously not a comedy.

  7. For her alien abduction sketch with Ryan Gosling alone, Kate McKinnon should win. Janney is great, and Chlumsky and Nash were top notch, but McKinnon is always funny, even when the writing is not that good.

  8. Tom says:

Kate because she’s who I want to be

  9. PawEr says:

What kind of world do we live in where Judith Light doesn’t already have an Emmy? Is this the “other” universe?

**Not saying she deserves it over the others, but just saying how does she not have at least one yet?!

  10. HeyThere says:

Mckinnon might win, because of her standout performance in Ghostbusters. McCarthy went through the same thing, she won an Emmy the year Bridesmaids came out

  11. CJKatl says:

Eden Sher should win. And she was not even nominated. She has done truly outstanding work year after year. Brad’s coming out episode, from her incredible physical comedy in the car and dorm room to her sweet, confident tone when saying “I already know” was perfect. Give the girl an Emmy already. While she might not have the big name of some of the other nominees, she has proven this year and each of the past several years that she is more Emmy-worthy than any of them. End of rant.

    • Lisa Echerd says:

I completely agree! I voted for Allison Janey because of the choices she is definitely the pick but I’d like to see Eden Sher nominated and The Middle actually recognized in some way.

  12. Me34 says:

Niecy Nash has been FANTASTIC in the entire run of “Getting On” and this is the last chance she has at being recognized for playing DiDi. I really really really hope she gets it. It’d be a great moment to see an amazing underrated character actress getting (on… sorry) some love from the TV academy.

  13. Lisa Echerd says:

Finally! A category with someone nominated that I actually care about. Allison Janey for Mom, of course!
