Presidential Debate Moderators

Presidential Debate Moderators Include Lester Holt, Anderson Cooper

With a little over three weeks to go until the first one-on-one face-off between Democratic contender Hillary Clinton and Republican hopeful Donald Trump, moderators have been set for the upcoming series of presidential debates.

The Commission on Presidential Debates has announced that Lester Holt of NBC Nightly News will oversee the first presidential debate, to be held on Monday, Sept. 26.

The second, town hall-format debate between Clinton and Trump will be moderated by ABC News’ Martha Raddatz and CNN’s Anderson Cooper, on Sunday, Oct. 9.

Bringing the presidential debates to a close, Fox News’ Chris Wallace will attempt to keep things orderly on Wednesday, Oct. 19.

Meanwhile, the Tuesday, Oct. 4 vice-presidential debate between Virginia senator Tim Kaine and Indiana Governor Mike Pence will be moderated by CBS News’ Elaine Quijano.

Are you looking forward to seeing Trump and Clinton have at it, one-on-one? Or are you simply excited that the debates mark the beginning of the end for this election season?

  1. Dave says:

Lovely. A bunch of people who are biased against Trump. Thankfully, we Trump supporters know this and are fully prepared to support our candidate regardless of how the media tries to vilify him. #trump2016

    • rt says:

how is fox news chris Wallace biased against the Donald? and what has lester holt done? i’ll give you Anderson cooper though

    • Patrick Henry says:

Oh please, you Trumpsters wouldn’t have been happy at all unless the moderators were Sean Hannity and Donald Trump himself in a wig.

    • Mary says:

I know you Trump supporters like to blame others except Trump himself when he shows his ignorance about what really matters, the real questions. As you so bluntly put it no matter what you are behind him so does it really matter who the moderators are? Maybe you should not watch to see him fail when there is no teleprompter telling him how to act like a mature adult and given intelligent responses. It probably will be a hour and half of him name calling and deflecting because he won’t be able to give a decisive answer.

      • MMD says:

Exactly. I have never before seen such a thin skinned politician who can dish it out but has a tantrum like a 5 yr old if anyone mentions his name and is only capable of speaking in soundbites. If only his supporters could see him as the rest of the world sees him.

    • Kat says:

Even if the moderators are “biased against” Trump ( I don’t think they will be but regardless… ) the answers that the candidates give are what’s important – how they respond, what their plans are, etc. Whoever becomes president will be faced with many situations where they are challenged or questioned (including international meetings) and how they conduct themselves is very important. The candidates will be asked many tough questions in the future and they won’t always be able to control which media asks the questions…or Congress… or other world leaders for that matter. They need to be able to remain calm and give articulate answers.

  2. Ninamags says:

    Isn’t Anderson a closet republican?

    • CP says:

He’s Gay, and Republicans would LOVE to crush any rights they deserve. Also, considering how he grilled Florida’s notoriously Republican AG in the wake of Orlando over her suppression of Gay Rights in that State, how’d be he be a closet Republican?

  3. Mary says:

    No Hispanic representation 😔

    • CP says:

Donald Trump gets triggered at the sight of ANY Hispanic, what more one moderating his debate? The Commission must’ve been aware of that and don’t want to divert the attention from the content of the debates. 😕

  4. AJJJ says:

No point in watching unless Gary Johnson is in it.

  5. EJ says:

Good choices although I wish Gwen Ifill was included.

  6. Joey says:

Honestly I would have preferred more partisan members of the media from both sides. Maybe someone like Hugh Hewitt as a conservative and Cenk Uygur as a liberal.

  7. Rob Horine says:

So three debates of 2 on 1. Hillary is getting a ton of help from her soldiers in the MSM!

    • Mary says:

Wow just like Trump complain before it takes place. First the dates of the debates and now who is moderating. Already setting up excuses when he falls flat on his face. Not once during any of the debates has Trump given an intelligent response. Unless you think disparaging remarks are intelligent. Let’s see how how he does without a prepare written speech from the teleprompter that he had no hand in. Trump, you criticize Hillary for pay to play yet you paid off the AG of Florida to drop your lawsuit. Oh no that was a misssstake made by someone in my office not me. Your not being fair, you are attacking me, I knew these debates were fixed, Cheers from his minions.

  8. TVFan says:

How can we get third party representation in any of the debates? We need a better choice!

  9. JosiahBartlet4President says:

I would have preferred PBS moderators. They always seem to be the most high brow and the fairest.

  10. Paul says:

I’d be more excited to see a no off limits questions press conference from Hillary. How long can she dodge the hard questions? Are they afraid she’ll strike out if she has to answer off the cuff? Trump may be a petulant bully, but Hillary is IMO a cowardly criminal.

    • BM says:

If Clinton is the criminal then why is Trump the one who paid a fine to the IRS and is standing trial for fraud and rape accusations?

  11. GeeMa says:

Now, just waiting for Gary Johnson to be added to the debate roster.

  12. HAP says:

    Knuckle draggers for Trump!

  13. MMD says:

I’m glad that I’m still on my self imposed news ban of politics, mass murders, terrorism and natural disasters.

I’m also so glad that I live in Canada and don’t have a dog in this fight!!!

    • peterwdawson says:

Pretty sure Not Trump is still a dog worth having because like him or not, and like Trudeau or not, no way in hell do those guys get along, especially with a Canadian PM whose main schtick (well, one of them) is that he’s got a great emotional intelligence, which is borderline anti-Trump. Hillary still may not be good for Canada but in that respect it does seem like less of a disaster waiting to happen. Hard to say with any third party candidates, would need to see if they actually stand a chance first.

  14. Sue says:

I love Anderson Cooper and detest Donald Trump, but I do have to admit that Cooper probably should have been replaced by a PBS moderator.
