MacGyver Reboot First Look: Keep Calm (and Always Have a Paperclip Handy)

Guys, don’t worry: As these exclusive promos prove, MacGyver has totally got this.

Even if “this” is a soon-to-fray rope that’s the only thing keeping a rickety chair from plummeting off a skyscraper. Or a seemingly inescapable scene that would make even Harry Houdini sit back and say, “Nah, I’m good.”

The videos at the top and bottom of this post find the CBS reboot’s star, Lucas Till, grinning and winking his way through two very stressful situations. In each, viewers are assured, he’s in total control — despite appearances.

In CBS’ reimagining of the popular 1980s series, Till stars as a 20-something MacGyver, who creates a clandestine organization where he uses his knack for solving problems in unconventional ways to help prevent disasters from happening.

MacGyver premieres Friday, Sept. 23, at 8/7c. Press PLAY on the videos above and below to watch Till keep his cool.

  1. Todd says:

How many episodes until this is cancelled?

  2. kelly says:

If it’ll get canceled Lenkov can always make a spin-off about The Phoenix Foundation. He can use Agent Adler from episode 2 as a lead character and focus on The Phoenix Foundation’s work in different areas. The characters from MacGyver will pop up here and there eventually.

    • Bristow says:

TPF spinoff sounds like a not bad idea.
Acker’s Adler is a very talented agent with many skills. TPF are very proud she’s working for them now. Agent A assembles her own team and everyone calls them The A Team!

I smell the spinoff within the spinoff!!

  3. KLS says:

    WTF was that?

  4. ScottJ says:

Yeah I always keep a paper clip in my mouth too.

  5. Jules says:

I don’t care….Hollywood & the Tv land don’t have original ideas so they make remake….simply another bad idea….the original was original & fun to watch and had a amazing charismatic RDAnderson to lead on….

  6. lrdslvrhnd says:

Nope. Not with that attitude. If that’s how he’s actually playing MacGyver, I’m out.

    • Stacy says:

Agreed. His attitude as MacGyver is a complete 180 of RDAs version. RDA was confident, this guy’s cocky. I fully expect him to fall off that rooftop.

  7. Kevin K says:

The MacGyver reboot won’t last that long and it’s going to be CBS’ biggest failure in years.

  8. Azerty says:

They cancelled Limiteless and kept…”that”? sigh.

  9. Jake says:

Quality (or not) of the show aside, that last “predicament” doesn’t seem that spectacular – just hook your foot around the rope (seems there’s enough fray left) and pull the chair forward, back from tilting over the edge.
