The House of Cards actress has been cast as the titular character in the Gilmore Girls creator’s Amazon dramedy pilot, our sister site Deadline reports.
The 1950s-set project follows Miriam “Midge” Maisel, a young Jewish wife who becomes one of the first female standup comedians after her husband leaves her and their two children.
The hour-long potential series is written by AS-P, who will produce with husband Dan Palladino (Gilmore Girls).
Brosnahan’s other TV credits include Manhattan, The Blacklist and Grey’s Anatomy. She also recently was cast in Woody Allen’s upcoming Amazon series.
Mrs. Maisel is one of the streaming video service’s five recently ordered pilots. The others were Guillermo del Toro’s supernatural thriller Carnival Row, deep space drama Strange New Things from Bridge of Spies scribe Matt Charman, superhero comedy The Legend of Master Legend, and pre-revolutionary Cuba drama Tropicana.
