Starz Pole Dancing Drama

Starz Developing Pole Dancing Drama Pussy Valley, 'Womanhood' Comedy Dirty Girls Social Club

Next stop: Pussy Valley!

(Yeah, Starz’s upcoming drama, announced Monday at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, is about exactly what you think it is.)

The one-hour scripted series, currently in development, “takes an unflinching and unapologetic look at the lives of pole dancers working down in the Dirty Delta.” Creator/writer Katori Hall will executive-produce, along with Peter Chernin (New Girl), Jenno Topping and Dante Li Loreto (American Horror Story).

Starz is also developing The Dirty Girls Social Club, a half-hour series about six working women — friends from college, still together after 10 years — in New York City. Per Monday’s announcement, “the series will explore womanhood in all its glory, with both humor and drama, and always with heart.”

Based on Alisa Valdes’ best-selling novel, Dirty Girls will be executive-produced by Anne Thomopoulos (Rome), Lucia Cuttone and showrunner Ligiah Villalobos (Go, Diego! Go!).

  2. George says:

After reading the description of the first series am I right to be confused by what exactly the second series is about? (re: “working women”)

    1) PV — wow, way to keep it classy with the title Starz. Seriously? You think because you have a risqué title that people will flock to see it just because of that? Wrong. Unless your target audience is giggling teenagers that get a kick out of saying it. Tacky. Fail.
    2) TDGSC — we’ve already had this – it was called Sex and the City. We don’t need a knockoff. No thanks.

  4. Lisa says:

Glad to see Starz chasing the demographic of “people who enjoyed telling friends that they like that new show Cougar Town, yes, despite that name”

is no going to mention how the show runner for the second show literally is only known for a kid’s show?

We’ve been thinking of cancelling cable for a while now…thanks to Starz it’s now a definite yes. I’m not paying for cr*p like this. Thank you Starz…you’ve just saved us $80/month!!

I looked at the picture and thought Pussy Valley was going to be animated. Then I realized it’s a picture of a giant status in the Miracle Mile shops at the Planet Hollywood hotel in Las Vegas. Because really though, wouldn’t a drama about strippers be more fun if it was animated? No? OK…
