Fall TV Preview
Fresh Off the Boat Season 3

Fresh Off the Boat to Film in Taiwan

The Huang family is heading back to the homeland.

Fresh Off the Boat‘s Season 3 premiere will be filmed on location in Taiwan, Vulture reports.

The three-day shoot, taking place next week, will allow the ABC comedy to incorporate Taipei’s landmarks, cuisine and street markets into the series.

In the Season 2 ender, Louis declared that the whole clan was going to Taiwan so that he could make things right with his younger brother Gene (guest star Ken Jeong).

But the upcoming trip is also “a callback to the pilot episode, where the Huangs arrive in Orlando, the quintessential ‘fish out of water,'” showrunner Nahnatchka Khan told Vulture. “Now they’re in Taiwan, and even though Jessica and Louis were born there, the boys weren’t — they were born in America and have never been out of the country.

“It’s that idea of not quite fitting into either place, of being both Asian and American,” she adds. “That’s a really cool thing we’re excited to explore.”

Fresh Off the Boat returns Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 9/8c on ABC.

See, Iron Fist producers, Asians going to Asia and having to discover the culture isn’t an unbelievable story.

    Really looking forward to this.

    • quang says:

That’s not the same thing, because Danny Rand was never Asian.

    • Jason Jones says:

I’m all for diversity, but in this case I still believe that Rand being white is integral to his story. There are roles that are ripe for race-bending, this is just not one of them in my opinion.

      • Lore says:

I know, check what happened with fantastic four

        • S. from NL now says:

Fantastic Four wasnt a bad movie because they casted Michael B. Jordan as Human Torch. It was a bad movie because the script was horrible, the special effects looked ancient, the hair department didnt get enough money for proper wigs,… you can continue with this list for ages. And no matter how much you wanna twist it around, none of those mistakes could have been fixed by a white actor as Human Torch. And I hope we can agree that Jordan is a fantastic actor and he is just as capable as any white boy.

Excited to see this episode! It’ll be fun.

  3. Keith Bryce says:

“FOB” is a very Stupid show, such a demeaning stereo typing of the Chinese. My wife is Taiwanese born and educated, migrated to the US after college, she thinks the show is insulting. We go to Taiwan every few years, I’m “white” and speak Japanese and Mandarin… better than anyone on that show except the Grandma. The Husband is played by a KOREAN, Two of the three children ARE NOT EVEN Ethnic Chinese! The wife is “ABC” and doesn’t even know how to REALLY act Chinese from Taiwan! The ONLY person on the show that IS actually Chinese is the grandma played by the famous actress Lucille Soong!! Have you noticed Randall Park NEVER says more than a couple words in Mandarin? Cause HE’S KOREAN!! In the recent trip to Taipei to see a brother get married (Ken Jeong), he’s played by ANOTHER
KOREAN!! You mean that they couldn’t find any Chinese actors??? This show is Pathetic
    and Insulting.

Series 3 has been dreadful…a real drop in quality. I switched off about 6 episodes in. Now concentrates far too much on the annoying mother and Eddie’s younger siblings. Eddie and the Cattleman’s Ranch are seriously lacking. Also, it’s almost as if it’s parodying itself now…definitely a different show to the one I enjoyed watching over season 1 and 2…
