Iron Fist Trailer

Marvel's Iron Fist: Watch First Promo, Reveal of Series' Logo

Perhaps the biggest surprise that Marvel TV had for San Diego Comic-Con was not just a teaser, but one with actual footage, for Iron Fist, the next hero to join Daredevil, Jessica Jones and (soon) Luke Cage in fighting crime on Netflix.

Marking Netflix’s fourth collaboration with Marvel Television, Iron Fist stars Game of Thrones‘ Finn Jones as Daniel Rand, who returns to New York City after being missing for years. He fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the titular, fiery Iron Fist.

The teaser below opens with a peek at Daniel’s tragic backstory, before offering a hint of who/what he eventually becomes — all capped with the reveal of the series’ logo.

Holding court at Comic-Con, Marvel TV also released a teaser for the Luke Cage series (premiering Sept. 30), announced Daredevil‘s Season 3 renewal and revealed the logo for the eventual Defenders team-up.

Comments are monitored, so don’t go off topic, don’t frakkin’ curse and don’t bore us with how much your coworker’s sister-in-law makes per hour. Talk smart about TV!

  1. Wordsmith says:

So, did they borrow Oliver Queen’s Arrowverse origin story, or did Arrow rip off the Iron Fist origins from the comics?

    • J says:

Iron Fist debuted in 1974 and his original origin had him, as a child, on an expedition in Tibet with his father Wendell, mother Heather and his father’s business partner Harold. Wendell, as a child, visited a mystic city called K’un L’un and wanted to go back.

While searching for K’un L’un there is an accident and Harold allows Wendell to fall to his death but offers to save Daniel and Heather because he secretly loved her. She refuses.

Daniel and his mother are attacked by wolves while looking for safety. Archers from K’un L’un appear and attempt to save both Daniel and Heather but Heather throws herself on the wolves to save Danny’s life.

Danny is brought to K’un L’un and trains and eventually becomes the Iron Fist.

  2. Cris says:

That’s actually such a cool logo

  3. Anne says:

I’ve always thought Iron Fist should be Asian. White protagonists who “master” Kung-fu are problematic. Unless he’s Dwight Shrute then it’s okay :P

    • Wordsmith says:

Well, if they’re establishing that he was raised by monks for 10-15 years, then I’ll buy it. Implying that kung fu is like a genetic superpower unique to Asian people is just as tone deaf, when you think about it.
But yes, you’re right, it is worth noting that the one big kung fu hero in the Marvel universe is a rich white dude.

      • J says:

It’s worth noting that there are many martial arts heroes in the Marvel Universe, chief among them are Iron Fist and Shang-Chi (known as The Master of Kung-Fu) who actually predates Danny by one year.

Colleen Wing will be appearing in the Iron Fist series. She was born in Japan to a Japanese mother and white father. She is also a badass martial artist and team mate/partner of Misty Knight. Misty will be appearing in the Luke Cage Netflix series.

And, yes, Danny is raised in K’un L’un for 10 years and trained in various forms of martial arts.

    • H says:

It’s entertainment for (mostly white) American children from the ’70es. The protagonist had to look like them to be accepted.

  4. Jacob says:

Is anyone else getting lumberjack-Dexter vibes from that image?

  5. Tim says:

Now What i want to stave alive for the most now is a possibility in 10-15 years that their will be a once off crossover between Marvel and DC as i want to see Luke Cage go toe to toe with Superman!! And Dardevil against Green arrow, Iron man vs The atom..Man i can dream cant i?
