Fall TV Preview

Chicago P.D. Adds Quantico Alum as [Spoiler]'s New Partner

Quantico grad has landed a job with Chicago P.D.

Li Jun Li, who portrayed top recruit-turned-FBI agent Iris Chang on the ABC primetime soap, has been cast in Season 4 of Dick Wolf’s NBC dramaTHR.com reports.

Li will fill the role of Julie Tay, the cop assigned to work with Burgess following the exit of her former partner Roman (played by departing cast member Brian Geraghty). The actress is currently signed for three episodes with the option of becoming a series regular.

If Li looks familiar, that’s because she first turned up on P.D. in the Season 2 episode “The Three Gs,” in which she portrayed a different character by the name of Anna Tse. Her previous TV credits also include FX’s Damages, AT&T Audience Network’s Billy & Billie, Fox’s The Following and the one-and-done Minority Report.

Thoughts on P.D.‘s latest recruit? Does Tay sound like a worthy replacement for Roman? Sound off below.

I’ve never watched her in anything and am behind on Chicago P.D., but I’m excited by this casting choice. Chicago is a diverse city and it’s nice to see that being reflected by cast choices. If she does a good job, it’s my hope that she gets signed on full time.

I love her. She was the best thing about Minority Report, one of the best on Quantico.

So is Chicago PD something I’ll have to be caught up to understand what’s going on, or am I good to dive in?

    • Shaun says:

      Dive in,it’s not serialized.

Not really. There are ongoing plots between characters that would not be hard to pick up on at all. I’ll make it easy…. Voight (the head of the intelligence unit) did something bad at the end of last season (which is nothing new), Halstead/Lindsay are together and Kim Burgess(a beat cop), who she will be paired with, had a partner named Roman that left last year. The other characters are Platt, the desk sergeant, upstairs there is Voight, Halstead,Lindsay,Ruzek, Antonio, Atwater, Olinsky and Mouse (they are the intelligence unit). They investigate some pretty bad crimes and bend the rules often for justice.

Her character never appeared in the future (flashforwards) on Quantico and they never explained where she was after graduation. I guess we’ll never know what happened to her (and it still isn’t clear why she was added to Quantico’s cast mid-season). Hope she has better luck in Chicago!

So happy they are testing a female partner with Burgess. Hope it works!
