Unconventional Presidents: TV's Wildest Rides to the White House

This November, We The People will choose as President of the United States either the first woman to hold the position, or an ambitious businessman who has never been elected to any public office.

Either way, a milestone will be marked — just as many a TV character has come to become POTUS in noteworthy, sometimes surprising ways.

On the occasion of this election year’s Republican and Democratic National Conventions, TVLine revisited more than a dozen of TV’s most unconventional presidents, from the woman who would precede Hillary Clinton’s bid by 30 years to groundbreaker David Palmer. From the unethically elected philanderer Fitzgerald Grant to maybe even Wonder Woman herself…?!

Review our list of “surprising” TV presidents (click here for direct access), and then tell us who among them gets your vote.

Comments are monitored, so don’t go off topic, don’t frakkin’ curse and don’t bore us with how much your coworker’s sister-in-law makes per hour. Talk smart about TV!

One thing I have to wonder about the government of the 12 Colonies is how big it is that the secretary of education is so far down when our own is much higher, usually 16 unless like now there’s someone ineligible above it

Wow. Way to leave out Cherry Jones, TVLine. Ummm, the five-time Tony Award-nominee even snagged several awards for her turn as President Taylor, including an Emmy.

Nathan Petrelli was also president in a couple of alternate futures on Heroes.

Frak yeah, Laura Roslin!!!! So badass.

I expected Madam Secretary to be on here for her brief moment in the office. Maybe acting president doesn’t count?

And President Kirkman’s mother’s family name is Roslin, right? Wonder if this show would even have existed if Ron Moore’s Battlestar Galactica hadn’t come up with the whole storyline first. So little originality on tv nowadays. But I’ll check it out, just to see if there is any homage to Battlestar Galactica (you know, like the show Kirkman’s watching on tv when he learn’s he’s become President is BSG’s miniseries or a Mary McDonnell movie, etc) lol

I cast my vote for Laura Roslin
