Jon Stewart Joining Stephen Colbert for Late Show's Live Convention Coverage

Jon Stewart fans, how’s this for your moment of zen?

The former Daily Show host has been confirmed for Monday’s Late Show, where he will appear opposite pal Stephen Colbert as he kicks off a week of live broadcasts focused exclusively on the Republican National Convention. The news was first reported by Vulture.

Though little is known about the capacity to which Stewart will be used, he is one of four guests penciled in for Night 1 of Colbert’s “2016 Trumpublican Donational Conventrump Starring Donald Trump as the Republican Party* (*May Contain Traces of Republican).” Star Trek Beyond‘s Zoe Saldana, Absolutely Fabulous‘ Jennifer Saunders and Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Ron Suskind are also scheduled to appear.

Colbert will follow up his week of RNC-themed shows with “The 2016 Democratic National Convincing a Technically Historic Event: Death. Taxes. Hillary.,” a four-night review of the Democratic National Convention beginning July 25.

Stewart, who is credited as an executive producer on The Late Show, last appeared alongside Colbert in December when he put in an appearance in support of the Zadroga Act (a bill that provides funding for healthcare programs aiding first responders of the 9/11 attacks). He most recently turned up on TBS’ Full Frontal opposite fellow Daily Show grad Samantha Bee.

Will you be tuning in for Stewart? Still bummed he hasn’t been around to cover this chaotic 2016 election cycle? Sound off below.

GREAT news! That will be an hour not to miss! It would be great to get Steve Carell back for another edition of Even Steph(v)en!

  2. Kevin In CT says:

If Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity were to cover the Democratic convention would it be mentioned at all here???

  3. Kevin K says:

So happy to see Stewart and Colbert back together again.

  4. YES!!! Much needed good news.

  5. Karl_ says:

The daily voice of Jon Stewart has sorely been missed – so far – in this 2016 nightmarish campaign which has steered the dreg of the GOP’s political barrel.

    • Karl_ says:

Remarkably, replacing ‘steered’ by ‘stirred’ does not make an essential difference in the meaning of the above statement.

  6. Rahelli says:

So happy to see jon stewart

  7. Angela says:

YAY :D! Oh, I can’t wait to see those two discuss the convention/election in general next week. I have most definitely missed Jon Stewart’s voice this year, so I look forward to any thoughts he shares when he shows up next week. It’ll be great to see these two together again.

  8. Louise says:

YES! I’m so excited for this

  9. S g says:

Stewart should have run for President this year. He would win because he crushes debates.

  10. lauren says:

Just move Corden to the 11:30pm slot, colbert just isn’t a good late night host. If I wanted to watch a political comedy show, I’d watch one. I’m a letterman and leno type, I just want some fun humor right before bed and Colbert isn’t capable of but Corden is PERFECT.

  11. jacqueline says:

Looking forward to the whole intelligent, funny, pathetic regalia!!

  12. Cathy Fein says:

John Stewart is possibly the most astute political comic in all of late night TV. There is a serious VOID in covering this unconventional presidential campaign since John Stewart has gone off the air. Trump is priceless comedic material and more importantly he is seriously deficient in intellectual curiosity . It is frightening to think he could be President. . John Stewart’s brilliant mind is SOOO missed . He could have made a great impact and reached the young adults ( especially) of this nation! John needs to come back on air and SAVE US from Donald Trumps INEPT UNQUALIFIED SCARY MIND ! He has zero capability of running this country !
