Did Fox News just spoil Donald Trump’s big Veep announcement?
The conservative-leaning cable outlet on Tuesday severed ties with contributor Newt Gingrich amid speculation that presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is set to name the ex-Speaker of the House as his running mate.
“Due to the intense media speculation about Gingrich’s potential selection as Donald Trump’s vice presidential candidate, we felt it best to halt his contributor role on the network to avoid all conflicts of interest that may arise,” Fox News executive vice president Jay Wallace told CNN.
At a rally last week, Trump promised supporters, “in one form or another, Newt Gingrich will be part of our government.”
Shortly after word of his Fox News suspension leaked, Gingrich appeared on the cable net and insisted that he didn’t “know much” about Trump’s VP pick, but hinted an announcement would come “no later than Friday.”
