Fall TV Preview

Fall TV Preview: Who's In? Who's Out? Your Guide to 140+ Casting Moves

This fall, more than 55 TV shows are returning with new seasons — many of them populated by new faces. And yes, there will be notable absences as well.

To cite but a few examples: The Good Wife‘s Archie Panjabi will bring new mystery to Blindspot, Harry Potter’s nemesis will work alongside The Flash, John Stamos is scrubbing in on Scream Queens and onetime CSI Adam Rodriguez will help the BAU get inside Criminal Minds. Meanwhile, Grey’s Anatomy, NCIS, Code Black and the CMT-rescued Nashville (which is included in our listing though not yet confirmed to return by fall) are among the shows bidding cast members adieu.

In this handy, alphabetized Fall TV Ins & Outs gallery (click here for direct access), TVLine has sifted through every casting story published since the spring to deliver a handy primer on the new series regulars and guest stars (appearing in two or more episodes) that are joining returning faves this fall, plus a spoiler-free refresher on those who have been left behind.

No mention of Katie Cassidy no longer being a regular on Arrow. Ah ha you know Laurel is not really dead. That is the secret big scoop. One can dream.

  2. Bwhit says:

I’m so intrigued with how they are going to use Wentworth Miller as this series regular. I just hope in this universe where everything is possible they bring Leonard back to the present and not only use him for flashbacks and when they travel back in time.

I love every casting decision this new Nashville regime has done.

    • Gail says:

With the Flashpoint alternate timeline many believe he will be Citizen Cold, Central City’s Hero, instead of the Flash in this timeline, so he should be alive in the new present.

  3. Lore says:

Arrow has like 20 new actors, and The Flash just needed one to hit the jackpot, welcome Mr. Malfoy

  4. Jorf says:

Hi Matt, could you elaborate more on the Wentworth Miller note as being a series regular for all those shows? Or am I not reading that correctly?

  5. tahimar says:

Isn’t Sara Ramirez just a break, according to her statement, and not a permanent departure from the show? Anything new?

  6. silverpetticoatreview says:

I feel like the DA from Arrow should have been female. There are way too many male characters on the cast right now in comparison to the female cast – especially with Laurel out. Just my opinion. :)

    • kath says:

I agree that there seem to be too many male characters being added to Arrow and too few female ones. That seems to be always the way on adventure/superhero shows, that it seems like unless there is 66 – 80% male cast, networks are afraid no one is going to watch.

  7. Alichat says:

They are adding like 8 people to Arrow. How will they ever get any plot development accomplished?? And whaaaaa to Noble not being on Elementary anymore. :-(

  8. Lala says:

I’m excited about John Stamos & Taylor Lautner and the guy from Copper Garret joining Scream Queens. Also happy with the Superman cast.
I just wish Archi Panjabi and William Fichtner would actually star in shows I watch.

  9. Andrea says:

How’d I miss the fact there will be no more John Noble on Elementary? Bummer. I really liked him as Morland.

  10. My favorite casting in all of this has to be Claire Forlani. She’s so underrated!

Also, Erin Karpluk is honestly one of the best criers in all television history. She should be given all crying roles, forever. It always seems real.

  11. Brigid says:

LOVE that Katie Cassidy will be all over The CW. She was robbed on Arrow. May she show her true acting chops within a well written story.

  12. Amy says:

It annoys me how perfect TV shows cast members change! Criminal Minds, lost Shamar Moor it won’t be the same. CSINY & CSINY had no ending. What great actors & Actresses just gone! The whole show ends! How do you end Criminal Minds , you leave it hanging. We become wrapped up in the show, and than it’s gone!!!

  13. gretchen thad says:

    What about Jon Huertas?

  14. bigdede says:

Well Agents of Shields will be canceled. Jason O’Mara is a show killer

  15. kelly fields says:

I’d like to know weather “Bones” is coming back or not or are they going to leave us with the cliff hanger that they left us with????
