Vanessa Lachey First Wives Club

Vanessa Lachey Joins First Wives Club Remake at TV Land

Vanessa Lachey is the third and final First wife.

The actress, whose TV credits include sitcoms Dad and Truth Be Told, has signed on to star in TV Land’s First Wives Club remake opposite fellow co-leads Alyson Hannigan (How I Met Your Mother) and Megan Hilty (Smash), TVLine has learned.

The small screen reboot of the 1996 film, which starred Diane Keaton, Bette Midler and Goldie Hawn, is set in modern day San Francisco. Much like the movie, the story follows three friends and former ’90s classmates who reconnect after one of their college pals dies in a freak accident. When they discover that they are all at a romantic crossroads, they band together to tackle divorce, relationships and life’s other annoying challenges.

Lachey will play Sasha, a driven and successful chef in San Francisco who has it all — a hot restaurant and a great girlfriend who she plans to marry. But when she reconnects with her old friends after the death of their college roommate, she realizes she may not be as ready to settle down as she thought.

Rebecca Addelman (New Girl) penned the script and will executive-produce alongside Jenny Bicks (Sex and the City).

Lol. Why is Alyson Hannigan attached to this epic fail?

  2. monday8911 says:

I don’t even understand why this is called the First’ Wives Club? How is this related to the movies and/or book?

  3. Claire says:

Megan Hilty and Alyson Hannigan had me interested, but not Vanessa Lachey. They must have run out of entertaining actresses if they settled on that one.

Still too young…. this would have been a great vehicle for actresses like Christine Baranski, Patricia Arquette, Marge Helgenberger, Eva Longoria, Jennifer Beals, Maggie Cheung. Instead they’re going to go younger because god forbid, them actually using mature age actress like the film

    • Saynay says:

This! It just seems too weird to have younger actresses. Are the second wives/girlfriends going to be teenagers? I’d much rather see some of the older actresses you mentioned and Alyson, Megan and Vanessa be the seconds.

      • Niki says:

Hannigan is 42, both Hilty and Lachey are 35. I assume they’re playing mid 30s from reading the article above. I don’t see a problem with divorce and that age. Frankly most people I know are divorced at a much younger age now….

        • Saynay says:

True enough, but if the show is set in contemporary San Francisco most women in their mid 30s are only going to be a couple of years into their first marriage if they are married at all.

So the Brenda character is just out completely? I liked that Alyson and Megan’s characters were reworked versions of Annie and Elise. Meh. I’ll still give it a shot, I guess.

Hollywood youth obsession again… well, only for the women, of course. These women are all 10-15 years too young to play the “First” Wives. Just look at their faces and you can see they’re too young. Let alone check their actual ages against the True First Wives, who all turned 50 while filing the movie, and only one of them is even close and that’s a stretch. Hannigan is 42, Hilty and Lachey are 35.
