MacGyver: CBS Unveils Trailer for Upcoming Reboot of '80s Series

Though you probably know Lucas Till best as Havok in the X-Men film franchise, he’s showing off an entirely different set of superpowers in the trailer for CBS’ MacGyver.

In the Eye Network’s reimagining of the 1985 series, Till stars as a 20-something MacGyver, who creates a clandestine organization where he uses his knack for solving problems in unconventional ways to help prevent disasters from happening.

MacGyver will air Fridays this fall at 8/7c. Press PLAY above for your first look at the series, then hit the comments with your initial reviews!

Comments are monitored, so don’t go off topic, don’t frakkin’ curse and don’t bore us with how much your coworker’s sister-in-law makes per hour. Talk smart about TV!

  1. Coop says:

This isn’t going to end well.

  2. donholley77 says:

Part of McGyver’s appeal was he’s a loner! He doesn’t need a partner! Probably won’t watch this reboot! Give me the original!!

    • Patrick says:

Because Nets always know they can fall back on shippers and eye candy (for all genders, orientations, and age groups) if the story doesn’t hold up.

  3. Wordsmith says:

They seem to be embracing the absurdity of the concept, which bodes well. the show has the potential to be incredibly dumb and cheesy, but if they lean into that camp factor rather than trying to be serious, it could actually work.

  4. B says:

Sorry, not watching. RDA will always be the one and only MacGyver.

  5. wrstlgirl says:

Don’t have a good feeling about this one but I’ll give it a shot.

  6. Ralph says:

  7. boy that looks horrible. Almost as horrible as Agent X on TNT.

  8. drb999 says:

MacGuyver needs a haircut. The long hair makes him look rather douchey.

  9. STOP REBOOTS says:

    Oh dear goodness NO.

  10. Card_D says:

The trailer clearly indicates that the clandestine organization seeks him out, not him creating it. And the “like my dad always used to say” line seems to suggest this will be the son of the original character.

  11. Murica! says:

This has to one of the worst trailers I’ve ever seen. This looks absolutely horrible! I can’t believe CBS decided to order this to series. This will be cancelled before the season is over.

    • c-mo says:

Agree! I was actually going to check it out this fall but after watching the trailer, I’ve changed my mind, this show looks AWFUL! Thanks, CBS for making such a horrible trailer, you’ve saved me wasting an hour of my life. SMH

  12. Mysteri says:

    Region free would be nice!

  13. Ro says:

    I miss the mullet.

  14. HAP says:

Another fail. There was no need to reboot a mediocre show. Not interested.

  15. Scorpion with a smaller team? Still, waiting to see it!

  16. Jackie says:

  17. Splusm says:

Not sure what hurts this reboot more: the legacy of its predecessor or Will Forte’s MacGruber spoof.

  18. James D says:

I’m almost crying at how bad this looks. RDA must be pissed watching this poser destroy his character what have you done CBS please make the maddness stop ;) seriously though this looks like utter crap thanks for violating my childhood CBS.

  19. Kevin K says:

Don’t know if the MacGyver reboot is going to be as bad than the original. Lucas Till is no Richard Dean Anderson.

  20. Amy says:

I have clearly reached the age in life where I look at fresh faced young leads and go ‘what are they, 12?’

  21. Carol says:

I’m willing to give this a go, looks like good action/fun. But on a shallow note – the hair is distracting.

  23. Loverebootsbutnotthisone says:

This Macgyver looks like he is still in high school looking to score a bag! Bad casting! Women won’t be tuning him in!

  24. It’s not the concept of a reboot that I have a problem with. It’s that this guy just comes across as really smug.

  25. Janet J. says:

This Macgyver looks like he is still in high school trying to score a bag! Bad casting! No chemistry!

  26. Allison says:

This has a very “Muppet Babies” vibe.

  27. The Doctor says:

    Continuing ageism in Hollywood …

  28. CBS: A Xenophobic Network.

  29. Mark says:

    Dead show walking cancellation warning

  30. mine says:

it has cancellation written all over it

  31. Eurydice says:

Wow, what a smug little rat boy. If they promised me he’d get his ass kicked every episode, I might consider watching.

  32. larry says:

There’s only 1 Mac. I’ve got all the video’s. I’ll watch, time goes on.

  33. mike says:

Whats next CBS? Greatest American Hero? get some originality ffs

  34. I will pass. The actor looks far too young and ‘hip’ to fill the role. The networks need to stop screwing around and re-imagining excellent shows with super young actors that are too young for the role.

  35. jenmarnem says:

Oh, CBS, no, no, no! Hollywood has enough creativity that you don’t have to remake classics. Stop it! At least Rush Hour was a movie that was made into episodes. The casting was great and it had action and comedy. Rush Hour was cancelled to make room for this – and Elementary? No. Just NO.

  36. Sarah says:

Sucks that they dumped a quality show like Limitless for this crappy reboot.

  37. This is gonna be simply even worse than angel from hell and it’s gonna be a truly pathetic reboot

RDA and della reese must be pissed and dana elcar must be rolling in his gravesite.

the new MacGyver will be cancelled.

  38. Don & Sharon says:

Looks interesting , we will have to see more episodes.
