Today vs. Good Morning America Movie Dies Quietly at Lifetime

Three years after Lifetime announced that it was developing a TV movie based on CNN media reporter Brian Stelter’s book, Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV, the cable network has let its option on the project lapse, our sister site, Variety, reports.

The script for Morning Wars, written by Odd Mom Out showrunners Julie Rottenberg and Elisa Zuritzky, focuses on the relationship between Today anchor Matt Lauer and legendarily sacked former co-host Ann Curry, as well as Good Morning America‘s ascent to the top of the morning-show ratings heap. There remains the possibility that the project could be shopped around and ultimately find another home.

This would seem tailor made for HBO with a few tweaks to the script.

  2. Barbara Messier says:

This would have been a really interesting movie, especially since bad communication and/or bullying still continues with Kelly Ripa and Natalie Morales. Y’all make way too much money to act this way to your viewers.

  3. Jake says:

Most likely because they could not find an actor pompous and arrogant enough to pull of Lauer…
