Doctor Thorne Trailer: Alison Brie Finds Love in Downton Boss' Amazon Drama

A British estate facing financial ruin? A controversial romance between classes? Top hats and petticoats as far as the eye can see? Downton Abbey fans, we think you’re going to like what you see.

Amazon on Tuesday released the first official trailer for Doctor Thorne, a new drama from Downton creator Julian Fellowes. Dropping on May 20, the three-part miniseries stars Tom Hollander (The Night Manager) as the titular doc, appearing alongside a slew of familiar faces, including Alison Brie (Community) and Ian McShane (Deadwood).

Doctor Thorne is based on Anthony Trollope’s 1858 novel, the third in his Chronicles of Barsetshire series.

He has to marry for money? Why didn’t we just get that Downton Abbey prequel where Robert did the same thing?

  2. LLA says:

    Looks good Can’t wait!

  3. Phil says:

Is this thing a joke… or not? The tone was all over the place. I kept waiting for the “from Julian Fellowes… NOT” punchline.

    • BlittleU says:

Yes! I couldn’t tell if it was supposed to be a spoof, or if it is cheesily over-dramatic. I might watch the former, but not the latter.

  4. Jason says:

Anything that keeps Alison Brie on my screen is swell by me.

  5. Anne says:

Well Julian Fellows has earned my viewership of whatever he does next.

  6. Anne says:

I’m also slightly confused at Tom Hollander suddenly seeming quite sexy. I forever thought I would only see him as Mr Collins

  7. I’ve never watched Downton but I’m intrigued by this – Trollope is one of the most underrated of the British Victorian novelists IMO.

  8. The Kaibosh says:

Wait. Is this an episode of Cougarton Abbey?

  9. Lizzie says:

Whatever happened to his project that was supposed to take place in 19th century New York? I think it was called ‘The Gilded Age?’ Is this Amazon project just a little side amusement before he gets going on that?

  10. luke says:

This aired on ITV in UK about 2 months ago… I’m pretty sure.

    • Katie T says:

It did. It didn’t do that great and I personally thought it was quite boring as there’s no real major story to it and it didn’t tell the story that it did have in an interesting way.
Also they’re clearly just using Alison Brie to sell it to an American audience as she’s hardly in it
