Star Wars' John Boyega to Headline Netflix's Watership Down Series

John Boyega is headed to a new far-flung galaxy, this one populated by animated rabbits.

The Star Wars: The Force Awakens stormtrooper has signed on to lead an A-list voice ensemble in the forthcoming animated miniseries Watership Down, Deadline reports.

Boyega will be joined by James McAvoy and Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: Days of Future Past), Ben Kingsley (Tut) and Gemma Arterton (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters) in this BBC One co-production based on Richard Adams’ 1972 action novel. The four-part adaptation follows a small group of rabbits who escape the certain destruction of their habitat in search of a new home that promises a more perfect society.

Adams’ novel was last adapted for UK television in 1999, which itself was based on a 1978 film adaptation voiced by John Hurt (The Last Panthers) and Richard Briers (Doctor Who). A premiere date for this latest incarnation has not been set.

Will you tune in for Netflix’s all-star animation?

Aw, I’d rather they did the Redwall series instead…

  3. JM says:

I absolutely love that book. I hope they do it justice.

  4. He’s probably voicing Bigwig. I personally always saw Fiver as the main character. I can’t wait to find out who voices Fiver.
