HBO Sets July Dates for Ballers Return, Premiere of Vice Principals Comedy

Pack your sunscreen and floppy hats: HBO is taking you back to Miami this summer.

The pay cabler announced Tuesday that its sports comedy Ballers will return for Season 2 on Sunday, July 17, at 10/9c. Back with another 10 episodes, the Florida-set series follows former NFL superstar Spencer Strasmore (Dwayne Johnson), who attempts to reinvent himself as a financial manager for current players.

Immediately following Ballers‘ return is the series premiere of Vice Principals (10:30/9:30c), a nine-episode dark comedy from Eastbound & Down creators Danny McBride and Jody Hill. McBride co-stars with Justified vet Walton Goggins as two high school vice principals, caught in an epic power struggle to become the school’s principal.

Rounding out HBO’s July slate is The Night Of, an eight-part limited series premiering Sunday, July 10, at 9/8c. The project — which examines the intricacies of a complex New York City murder case with cultural and political overtones — will kick off with a 90-minute episode, followed by hour-long installments on subsequent Sundays. John Turturro (Monk) and Riz Ahmed (the U.K.’s Dead Set) star.
