Walton Goggins Six

Walton Goggins Joins SIX, Replacing Joe Manganiello in Navy SEAL Drama

SIX of one, half-dozen of the other? Well, not exactly.

Justified vet Walton Goggins has take over the lead role in SIX, History channel’s Navy SEAL drama, according to our sister site Deadline. True Blood‘s Joe Manganiello exited the role last Thursday due to a “manageable” preexisting health issue, bringing production to a standstill after shooting two chapters of the eight-episode series.

Goggins will play Rip Taggart, described as “a gruff, haggard, and aggressive military man who was once the squad leader of Seal Team Six. Five years later, Rip is working in Africa, protecting a small village from Boko Haram.”

The series focuses on an elite team of Navy SEALs whose 2014 mission to eliminate a Taliban leader in Afghanistan goes awry when they uncover a U.S. citizen working with the terrorists.

SIX, from Academy Award-nominated screenwriter William Broyles Jr. (Apollo 13) and military special ops veteran David Broyles, is inspired by current events and will aim to capture “what these SEALs do, their complex personal lives, and the life and death decisions they make.”

The cast also includes Barry Sloane (Revenge) and Edwin Hodge (Chicago Fire).

  2. Jane says:

I hadn’t planning on watching this before but I love Walton Goggins so I may have to watch it now.

  3. Annabanana says:

A way better actor, and while not as “swole” as Mangianello, he’s built!

  4. Just bought me as a viewer!

  5. The Beach says:

Great news. Goggins can run rings around most actors.

  6. Daisy says:

I would’ve loved Joe M but Walton G will definitely do just fine.

  7. Wooster182 says:

So surprised and happy they went this direction. Will watch now. Hope Joe is ok though.

  8. h5n1 says:

just went form maybe check it out ot a must watch

  9. Anne says:

Really? This is who you replace Joe with? A mini-series about SEALS doing ‘save-the-world’ type stuff …. and this is who you cast to lead them? It’s shallow, but oh well.

  10. Scout says:

Way better in every way. Walton is awesome.

  11. ? says:

Well THAT’S going in a very different casting direction. Haha. But I’d watch Walton do anything.

  14. Sue Baldwin says:

I wasn’t planning to watch this series, but now that Walton Goggins is in it, I won’t miss a minute! I’m still jonesing for Boyd and Justified and counting down the days to the premiere of Vice Principals, so having another vehicle for Walton’s amazing talent lined up on my viewing runway makes me very happy.

  15. JScout says:

I’m in now, love Walton Goggins.

  16. Martha Lindberg says:

Coggins is fantastic! Just binge watched every season of “Justified.” Where has Hollywood been hiding Mr. Coggins? He is a rare find and such a superior actor to some of the current big box office male leads. Bring him on.

  17. Gary says:

I was disappointed to hear Goggins is in it. On my most pretend day I won’t be able to picture him as a SEAL. No way.

  18. Rosie Brackett says:

Yes Walton Goggins will be great in the part

  19. People think SEALs are all built like Schwartzenegger. No, they are built more like Goggins. Ornamental muscle is just more weight to lug around. Burly maybe, but never Mr. Universe Adonises.

  20. John green says:

Walt Goggins is terrific, loved Justified, looking forward to this show with Walt in the lead!!

  21. Don James says:

Love the show, but I don’t care for the drunks.

  22. Too bad that Rip was killed-off on SIX season finale. I am a Walt Scroggins fan.
