The Detour Renewed

The Detour Renewed for Season 2 at TBS (Before Debut of Season 1)

TBS is staying the course with The Detour, renewing the Jason Jones-Natalie Zea family road-trip comedy for a second season — five days before the premiere of Season 1.

Created by Jones and wife Samantha Bee, the sitcom was inspired by the couple’s own experiences with family vacations. Daily Show alum Jones and Justified vet Zea play the parents of two children. “Every leg of their trip is fraught with disaster as they encounter one hellish turn after another,” per the show’s official logline. “If there’s trouble on the road, this family will find it and plow into it.”

The show’s first season premieres on Monday.

“Jason and Sam’s vision and execution of the first season was original and unexpected at every ridiculous turn,” said Brett Weitz, executive vice president of original programming for TBS, in a statement. “Having Jason as executive producer, director and star really brought a definition to the voice of the characters and a realism to this family.”

It’s been a good week for Bee. On Monday, TBS ordered an additional 26 episodes of her new late-night talk show Full Frontal.
