March BADness

March BADness: Kilgrave vs. Zoom, Angelus vs. Lucifer in Round 3!

It’s. About. To Go. Down. With fisticuffs, firearms and deliciously brutal one-liners.

We’re officially in Round 3 of TVLine’s March BADness Bracket Tournament, and the small screen’s greatest villains will not rest until they’ve reduced their rivals to a pile of ashes (or suffered the same fate themselves).

Yes, we’re down to just 16 of the most ruthless, horrible, evil, and occasionally delicious ruffians, rapscallions and reprobates ever to appear on television — and we want you to tell us who’s the baddest of ’em all.

Over the next week, we’ll be putting up two posts per day asking you to winnow down the field to one ultimate villain. So find a seat in our online Thunderdome, head down to our polls to vote for your favorites (Round 3 voting will be open for 24 hours), then hit the comments to justify your picks.

Our latest matchups include Kilgrave of Marvel’s Jessica Jones and The Flash‘s Zoom, and Supernatural‘s Lucifer versus Angelus of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

CLICK HERE TO CHECK OUT THE 64-PLAYER BRACKET (then click again for a zoomed-in view) — and keep coming back to TVLine over the next week to see how March BADness plays out. Now ready, set, vote!

Comments are monitored, so don’t go off topic, don’t frakkin’ curse and don’t bore us with how much your coworker’s sister-in-law makes per hour. Talk smart about TV!

i dont think we can really judge zoom vs. kilgrave until we understand the extent and reasoning of zooms plan on the flash

    Kilgrave and Lucifer.

  3. LynnH says:

    Angelus. No contest.

  4. Jason says:

Lucifer, though he certainly has the pedigree, lacks the emotional impact of Angelus. As a character he’s charming and well acted but Supernatural has never been as capable of ripping my heart out as Buffy. And never was there a villain who exemplified that as much as Angelus. On the other contest, Zoom is certainly nasty. But much like Angelus, Killgrave is much more capable of leaving one feeling like a raw nerve. He is the most chilling evil I’ve seen in a long time.

    Angelus

Kilgrave and Angelus are just plain psychos.

That’s it, in a nutshell. What Angel did to Jenny, then Giles actually traumatized the audience. Everyone I know was a basket case at the end of BTVS Season Two. For such a young show, both in real time and its demo, it pulled zero punches. The SeasonEnder literally left me sobbing.

I know I had to sleep with the light on for weeks, I kept checking under my bed. And every time my elder brother would watch re-run of buffy I started crying everytime Angel came on.

    “Come back here, Jessica!”

.. still gives me the chills..

If Lucifer loses this then I don’t care anymore, I don’t understand how you people are judging badness

Wanting to destroy the world, having pure hatred in your heart, fearing no one, no love or compassion…killing animals, children, men & woman for pleasure, destroying villages/towns, raping & torturing, making protégés to carry out your destruction world wide, psychologically destroying people….meet Angelus.

I am sure I am missing out on plenty, but that’s the gist

      • Phoenix5634 says:

You basically just described Lucifer as well. And Lucifer wants to kill everyone and everything and reshape the world in his image. And he actually has the power to do so ( if he takes Sams body, which is bad too lol) And every demon is a person/soul that he tortured and twisted into an abomination, which then become his slaves in his army, and he’ll kill them too. He’s probably working on Angelus’s soul too lol.

    • Jerri says:

Compared to Angelus, Lucifer is an amateur. Angelus is pretty close to ultimate evil.

      • Phoenix5634 says:

Only becuz he doesn’t actually have a soul, so he doesn’t feel anything. He has no morale compass. Plus they can’t show all the bad things Lucifer has actually done becuz for one it’d cost to much, and two it’d be to gruesome to show on TV. And if you took anyway whatever angelic soul/ morale compass Lucifer had, he be far worse even yet.

        • anon says:

But Angelus *doesn’t* have a soul. That’s who he is. That is the point. He is soulless. He isn’t like the other vampires, who are soulless too, he is own brand of “free-range evil”

And they didn’t show all of Angelus evil deeds either on TV, the characters informed us of some, life the Valentine’s gift of dead puppy!!!!

          Seriously (re)watch Buffy & Angel.

          :-)

  9. clintbrew says:

these are getting tough to pick i picked kilgrave over zoom and angelus cus he killed ms calender which was messed up (he broke her neck and scattered rose petals for giles to find her dead)

  10. Jerri says:

Kilgrave & Angelus FTW. I dread to think what would have happened if those two would have ever teamed up, tho…

  11. Shezzle87 says:

Im going to go with Kilgrave and Angelus. Both of them made me feel absolutley terrified when i watched them for the first time.

Cant say i have had that feeling of terror for Lucifer or Zoom!

So Kilgrave and Angelus win through to the semi finals, hands down!!

  12. Every time i watch the BTVS episode ‘Passion’ I still cry – Angelus wasn’t just evil he enjoyed messing you up!!

  13. Robert says:

Kilgrave is beating out Zoom? Kilgrave was nothing more than a petulant child who pitched a fit because he couldn’t get the girl. As of now, Zoom is just flat out evil. He may be trying to save his own life, but that’s not stopping him from murdering anyone that gets even remotely close to anyone that gets in his way.

    • Jason says:

But that’s just it Kilgrave’s isn’t just because he couldn’t get the girl, that’s just why he concentrates on Jessica. If you take Jessica out of the picture he will still be doing extremely evil things. But on top of that and for me the thing that really makes him the most evil is the fact that as we’ve seen with his character even if he succeeds he won’t stop. He’s already shown that he will just eventually get board and move on to someone else. Plus the fact that he actually makes you kill yourself rather than him doing it just really bothers a lot of people.

  14. Alison says:

    Angelus. No contest.

  15. Tracy says:

I don’t understand how a vampire can be worse the the devil. The devil who can, with just the snap of his fingers, make you explode.

    • Jason says:

I think in a way it has to do with personal connection to the character. For Angelus fans had an entire season and a half to get to know the character as a good guy before they got smacked in the face with how truly evil he could be.
Where with Lucifer you don’t really have that emotional connection to him, because he’s portrayed as a villain right from the start.

  16. laura says:

Killgrave he infiltrated peoples minds and made them do things against their will. He forced people to kill themselves, strangers, and even their own families. Not to mention he forced woman to have sex with him against their own will. Sorry but this man was just straight up creepy, perverted, sick, diabolical, manipulative, and charming which made his evil deeds that much more perverse.

  17. Tove says:

    Lucifer all the way baby
