Ellen DeGeneres Dying Comedian

Ellen DeGeneres Working With HBO to Air Dying Comedian's Stand-Up Special

Ellen DeGeneres has made good on yet another promise, this time convincing HBO to air a stand-up special from aspiring comedian Quincy Jones, who also happens to be dying of cancer.

Jones, 32, made his first appearance on Ellen in March; she contributed $10,000 to his Kickstarter, which his friends helped him launch shortly after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer in July 2015. The Kickstarter’s initial goal was $5,000 to produce a special, but thanks to DeGeneres and Shutterfly, it has exceeded $50,000.

“Your people didn’t even tell you this,” DeGeneres reveals to Jones during his return to her show on Monday, “but HBO is going to air your special.”

Jones will record his special on April 4 at Los Angeles’ Terragram Ballroom; it’s expected to air sometime this spring.

    “Your people”? Oh, Ellen….

    • Ella samdova says:

Clearly she means his management team. That’s the right term in the industry. Nothing racial or otherwise………

    • Riana says:

She was talking about his entourage. Stop trying to make things racist.

    • e. says:

Sooo…. let me get this straight. You think Ellen told all the African-Americans she knew that his show would be aired on HBO but to keep it a secret, not that she spoke his management to coordinate the effort. Really?

    • Guest says:

Um… because Ellen assumes that all black people know each other? Maybe that’s just your assumption.

    • Cait says:

The majority of the time, when my fellow white people use the phrase “race card”, they’re whining about having to acknowledge that yes, racism could in fact still be a factor in things less blatant that actual slurs against POC. And then there are people like you, who respond only to hearing two words together, and apparently lack the intellectual ability to understand the concept of context. Cheers for being a jerk about a wonderful thing, though! I hope it made your day better.
