Helen Hunt Shots Fired

Helen Hunt, Richard Dreyfuss and Stephen Moyer Join Fox's Shots Fired

Fox’s event series Shots Fired just hooked three big fish.

Oscar winners Helen Hunt, Richard Dreyfuss and True Blood vet Stephen Moyer have joined the drama in lead roles, TVLine has learned.

Co-created by Gina Prince-Bythewood (Love & Basketball) and Reggie Rock Bythewood (Notorious), the project stars Sanaa Lathan (Love & Basketball) as an expert investigator digging into a series of racially charged shootings in a small Tennessee town.

Hunt, Dreyfuss and Moyer will respectively play Patricia Eamons, the fictional governor of North Carolina; Arlen Cox, a real estate mogul and owner of a privatized prison who is intricately involved in the shootings; and Officer Breeland, a seasoned veteran in the town’s Sheriff’s Department who gets caught in the middle of the investigation.

This marks Hunt’s first regular series gig since Mad About You ended its seven-season run in 1999. Meanwhile, Moyer is coming off of FX’s short-lived Bastard Executioner, and Dreyfuss recently starred in ABC’s limited series Madoff.

The trio joins a cast that includes Stephan James (Selma), Aisha Hinds (Under the Dome) and Tristan Wilds (90210). Shots Fired will premiere later this year.

Jeez, Helen Hunt?! I have to watch this now. It would be great if this could be Fox’s American Crime.

Love Helen Hunt. I’ll have to check it out.

  4. Yes because all we need for our society today is another tv show about police brutality. Like our officers don’t have enough to worry about out there as is with all of this discord. No, we are going to make yet another tv show about how terrible police are when that is just so not true. Are there bad cops? Yes. But just like EVERY profession there are people there that don’t need to be. But the majority of law enforcement is to protect and serve! I used to want to be a police officer until I kept reading how one officer after the next keeps getting gunned down. Thank you to all Police, constables, and Sheriffs for the amazing job that you do putting your life in harms way to make sure I can fall asleep easier at night knowing you all are out there protecting my neighborhood as best as possible :) and don’t worry about this awful show. Karma is a real thing :)

Nowhere, in any of the three articles about this show on this site, does it mention police brutality. Each article mentions “racially charged shootings.” Might police brutality be involved? Yes. It might be entirely likely. But you just took a lot of time to type something for which you yet to have any factual basis. Also, it seems from the description that Sanaa Lathan is playing a member of law enforcement.

The original plot released for the show said it involved a white teenager shot and killed by a black police officer. Since, then, all the reports on the show have just watered it down to “racially charged shootings.”

      Thank you.

  5. Morgan says:

If the shootings take place in Tennessee, then why is the governor of North Carolina involved?

  6. Helen Hunt? Now this got good.

  7. HAP says:

Two actors who have each received two Oscar nominations and who have won one Oscar, on a TV series. Hmmm.
