Gotham will rise again next fall.
Fox on Wednesday renewed the DC Comics origin drama for a 22-episode third season. Per the network, the show has been averaging 9 million weekly viewers across multiple platforms.
Fox previously renewed fellow hour-longs Empire, Scream Queens and Bones for the 2016-17 season.
“It takes a very special team to tell the tales of Gotham,” said Fox president David Madden in a statement. “For the past two seasons, Bruno, Danny and John have masterfully honored the mythology of Gotham and brought it to life with depth, emotion and memorable high drama. This incredibly talented cast has redefined these iconic characters for a new generation, and we couldn’t be more proud of this show.”
Gotham will end its current second season by bringing back a big Fish. As TVLine scooped, Jada Pinkett Smith will reprise her crime-boss role for multiple episodes.
