Gotham Renewed for Season 2

Gotham Renewed for Season 3 at Fox

Gotham will rise again next fall.

Fox on Wednesday renewed the DC Comics origin drama for a 22-episode third season. Per the network, the show has been averaging 9 million weekly viewers across multiple platforms.

Fox previously renewed fellow hour-longs Empire, Scream Queens and Bones for the 2016-17 season.

“It takes a very special team to tell the tales of Gotham,” said Fox president David Madden in a statement. “For the past two seasons, Bruno, Danny and John have masterfully honored the mythology of Gotham and brought it to life with depth, emotion and memorable high drama. This incredibly talented cast has redefined these iconic characters for a new generation, and we couldn’t be more proud of this show.”

Gotham will end its current second season by bringing back a big Fish. As TVLine scooped, Jada Pinkett Smith will reprise her crime-boss role for multiple episodes.

  2. Chuck says:

Good news, this season has been better than last year, still not great but it’s nice to see a show get a chance to continue to find its legs and improve.

  3. nabocane says:

Yay! S3, here we come. Fantastic news. Not so much the return of the scenery-chewing JPS and the useless Fish Mooney character.

    • tvjunkie says:

Whoever made the decision to bring back Fish should lose their job.

      • JScout says:

I agree. I had to fast forward through her part in the last few episodes with that character. Can’t believe they’re bringing her back. But, still glad the show got renewed.

  4. Guy says:

Cool. Gotham is far from perfect, but I still enjoy it. And this season has been much better than the first.

  5. Geoff Gentry says:

We at Gotham Undercover podcast have been bragging on the wonderful writing and great acting this season. We are thrilled to see Gotham get a S3. Not too thrilled about Fish returning.

    • Jeff says:

Agreed, this season has been much improved over season 1. I like how the emphasis is on “Gotham”….we don’t need to see every character in every episode….keeps the plot tight and concise

  6. Joey Padron says:

So happy the show got renewed for season 3! Love the show and season 2 been great!

  7. Phillip says:

    Hell yeah!!!

  8. Now they only need to renew Minority Report so all my faves will be safe!

  9. Superherofan says:

Now come on CBS give me a Supergirl renewal news and I might be able to weather the pain of the inevitable Agent Carter cancellation as I be happy on the Superhero show front.

  10. Chris says:

How come Fox hasn’t renewed “Lucifer”, “The Last Man On Earth”, and “Family Guy” yet?

    • SayNay says:

Lucifer keeps dropping in the demo every week, so Fox probably doesn’t know where the show’s floor is yet and for a first season show renewing now is probably a gamble.

      • Chris says:

Lucifer is still doing pretty good in the ratings, and it’s doing very well in the L+3 & L+7 demos, so I think that the show has a pretty good chance at being renewed for a second season! Gotham’s ratings are dropping in the demo too, but that show was renewed because of its great performance in time-shifted viewing!

    • Idk says:

Family guy has been renewed… And last man on earth is a safe bet.

  11. Couch Mom says:

YAY for Gotham! Sorry for Bones, but it is time for Booth, Brennan, and the gang to go their separate ways. Glad Bones writers know in advance so they can give it a proper sendoff.

    • kmw says:

Why are you sorry for Bones? We are getting a proper sendoff which was more than we thought we were getting. Bones is coming back for a short 12 episode last season, these episodes coming up aren’t their last ones. I am really glad Gotham is getting another year because it has done steady numbers for FOX. However Gotham doesn’t have the luxury that Bones did for FOX, which is FOX owns Bones not Gotham. It will get progressively harder for FOX to renew Gotham because of that. Lets hope Gotham can keep on being steady

I binged season one after watching a few episodes of season 2 and I’m hooked. It’s a great age to be a superhero fan.

    • pat says:

I agree, Fish is the worst character! I was so glad they “killed” her off. I am NOT looking forward to her return, but I do love the show.

  13. Saintsfan9 says:

Good for Gotham on being renewed. Bad on them though for bringing back JPS as Fish Mooney, she is the WORST character on that show.

    • grys03 says:

Agreed. Love the show & most of the villains (who are the stars of the show are brilliant) but please no more Fish.
      .
Other things we need to see:
      1. Bruce bulking up a teeny bit (or more) – & physical training
      2. Bruce starting to delve into the psychology of criminals (hopefully that will happen as part of his living on the streets with Selina)
      3. Bruce & Alfred exploring more of the cave
      4. Bruce & Lucias learning more about Wayne enterprises
      5. Please stop hurting/hospitalising Alfred
      6. More Harvey Dent
      7. More Lucias Fox & his gadgets
      .

Yay. Crazy Bananas but in a fantastic way. The performances are great. The story line continues to be intriguing. Love it.

  16. mike says:

YAY for renewal. Its not as good as the others of the genre, but its still fun and interesting.

And a big, resounding BOOOOO for bringing back Fish. Horrible. Just horrible

  17. CC says:

    Good News!! Love this show.

  18. JScout says:

Love the show. Hate the Fish Mooney character. Please kill her off quickly this time if you have to bring her back.

  19. JM says:

    Excellent! Love this show!

  20. Anthony says:

Great news. I love Gotham. Too bad theyre bringing back Fish Mooney, a terrible actress and boring character.

    • Ben says:

Show has greatly improved. 1st season didn’t seem to have any direction – weird and violent without a reason. Good writing this season allowing us to see how talented the cast really is. No Fish so far this season has been a plus. We’ll see how the quality drags when Fish returns.

  21. TW says:

Why hasn’t Lucifer been renewed yet? Best new show on Fox or anywhere!

  22. Sab Farley says:

i love Batman, all versions of his story, i must say that Robin Lord Taylor has a knack for portraying the Penguin and he does it beautifully!!! As for the rest of the cast, splendid job too, love you guys, keep up the good work.

  23. philip says:

this show had some promise before it was aired but it has went from nonsense to desperate nonsense now their betrayal of azreal is ridicules. I watch it to simply for comedy. It’s too bad too because it was a good idea but once again people like to screw things up.

  24. Joyce Collins says:

I absolutely LOVE this show!!!! I was a tiny bit worried after Jada Pickett left. The storyline with the “Villians”. It has been so exciting. I watch this show AS I record!!!
