Chad Michael Murray‘s next role is record
The One Tree Hill alum will play Sun Records founder Sam Phillips in Million Dollar Quartet, CMT’s upcoming adaptation of the Broadway musical, the network announced Monday.
As the head of the iconic recording label, Phillips witnessed the rise of artists like Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins. Jennifer Holland (American Horror Story) will play Phillips’ wife, Becky.
The scripted drama is billed as “a coming-of-age story set in Memphis during the tumultuous early days of the civil rights movement” that chronicles the rise of artists — including those mentioned above — amid “sweeping political change and social unrest.” It takes place around the “Million Dollar Quartet” recording sessions featuring Presley, Cash, Lewis and Perkins.
Murray’s TV credits also include Agent Carter, Scream Queens, Texas Rising, Dawson’s Creek and Gilmore Girls.
Production on Million Dollar Quartet will begin this spring in Memphis; the series is slated to premiere in November.
