Maya Rudolph, Martin Short's Live NBC Variety Series Gets Premiere Date, Adds Kenan Thompson

Maya Rudolph and Martin Short are bringing their unique brand of comedy to a television near you — and they’re not coming alone!

NBC has given a series order to Maya and Marty in Manhattan, an hourlong variety show which will air weekly from 30 Rockefeller Center in New York City. Kenan Thompson (Saturday Night Live) will also star.

Maya and Marty, executive-produced by SNL‘s Lorne Michaels, officially premieres Tuesday, May 31 at 10/9c, following the two-hour season premiere of America’s Got Talent.

“With their cumulative expertise and experience in live comedy, we couldn’t ask for a better trio to deliver what we know will be a fantastic show,” Paul Telegdy, President, Alternative and Late Night Programming, NBC Entertainment, said in a statement. “Their respective accomplishments on Saturday Night Live and beyond are extraordinary.”

This show was terrible the first time it was on. I hope it gets better.

Can this feature an “Inappropriate Musicals” segment each week with James Cordon?

We could use a good variety show. Neil Patrick Harris had a bad idea with the secret following of somebody each week but there was potential because of his personal charm. America’s Got Talent is failing fast because they focus more on the judges than the talent. Both of those should have been terrific so let’s hope this one turns out to be great.
