Amazon The Tick Reboot

The Tick Reboot Pilot Ordered at Amazon — With All-New Cast!

That noise you hear is another TV reboot getting a green light.

Amazon has officially ordered a pilot for an update of The Tick, the cult live-action comedy from writer/producer Ben Edlund, our sister site Deadline reports.

Original star Patrick Warburton — who headlines NBC’s upcoming comedy Crowded — will not return for the project, which will resurrect his muscle-bound, antennae-sporting superhero.

The live-action Tick ran for nine episodes on Fox in 2001 and starred Nestor Carbonell (Lost) as Batmanuel, Liz Vassey (All My Children) as Captain Liberty and David Burke (Brothers & Sisters) as Arthur.

Griffin Newman (Vinyl) will play sidekick Arthur in the Amazon version, while Valorie Curry (House of Lies, The Following) will portray Arthur’s sister, Dot.

Edlund — author of the comic book series that birthed The Tick, and who created the Fox comedy, as well as the 1994 animated series — will pen and produce the comeback.

Reports of a possible reboot first surfaced last August, with the expectation that Warburton would reprise his role.

I don’t know, part of what made the first run perfect was Warburton.

  2. A. D. says:

    No Warburton…No thanks!

say it I me everyone, SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON. I’m not subscribing to prime for this. I wish they were reviving the cartoon instead

  5. Jeremy Wilhm says:

I could see Jason Segel doing a decent job as The Tick. He can play the big dumb guy with a heart of gold. I could see Rob Riggle as The Tick but his version wouldn’t be quite as innocent. Riggle would force a smile and wink to the camera and want to break the 4th wall.

  6. B says:

Ah come on, bring back Nestor Carbonell as Batmanuel.

  7. Kris says:

So, i thought that was Nathan Fillion in the picture..is it just me?

    • Jeremy Wilhm says:

No, but if Castle isn’t renewed, I could see Fillion as The Tick. Then just start pluging in Firefly cast to fill the rest of the roles. Alan Tudyk could be Sewer Urchin, Jewel Staite or Summer Glau could be American Maid, and Sean Maher could be Die Fledermaus.

I can see it a little

It takes a certain kind of actor to fill the titular role, hopefully Amazon finds a way to make lightning strike thrice in that respect.

  9. Simon Jester says:

Honestly, I’d prefer they brought back the animated series. #ThatMustacheFeeling

  10. SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

  11. Max says:

I could see Adam Pally as the new Tick.

  12. Eh says:

    Spoooooon!

  13. HAP says:

Waste of time and money. It was the quirky cast in the original that made the show worth watching.

  14. Jason Hurtado says:

Rob Riggle would make a great Tick!

Warburton was perfect – the only other guy I can imagine playing The Tick is “Cap Awesome” from Chuck – Devon Woodcomb.
