Parenthood Vet Max Burkholder to Lead Hulu Pilot When the Street Lights Go On

May God bless and keep you always, and may Parenthood actors continue to be employed.

Max Burkholder — best known for playing Max Braverman on the NBC dramedy — is set to star in When the Street Lights Go On, an in-the-works drama pilot at Hulu.

Set in the summer of 1983, the coming-of-age thriller centers on a sleepy, suburban town that is rocked by the brutal murders of a high school student and her teacher.

Though details about Burkholder’s character are not yet available, Deadline reports that Australian actress Odessa Young will co-star as 15-year-old Becky Monroe, the young victim’s sister.

A Paramount Television production, When the Street Lights Go On will begin filming in Atlanta this April.

  1. Annie says:

How he was never nominated for an Emmy will forever confuse me. He did a remarkable job; probably some of the best acting by a child we’ve seen in a long time.

    • Lyn says:

ITA. His portrayal of Max was always riveting. I’m in.

    • DL says:

Seriously. Most of the time I had to remind myself he was acting because I thought he just WAS Max Braverman. I couldn’t imagine him being any other way in real life; that’s how fully he embodied the role.

  2. Wordsmith says:

He is so indelibly etched in my mind as Max Braverman that I can’t actually imagine him outside of the role. Very interested to see him as someone else.

  3. Elly says:

From the pilot on, you could see how talented this kid is. Parenthood was great at breaking your heart, but the Max scenes were truly powerful. Well deserved, Max!

  4. He was brilliant in Parenthood! This has to be excellent!

  5. Christa says:

Ran into filming of this yesterday in my town of Newnan, GA. I walked by Max before I processed who it was! I loved him in Parenthood, and now I’m kicking myself for not saying something. Can’t wait to watch this show!
