Legends of the Hidden Temple

Legends of the Hidden Temple: Nick Reviving Game Show as TV Movie

Blue Barracudas, Purple Parrots and Red Jaguars, listen up!

Nickelodeon is rebooting its classic game show Legends of the Hidden Temple as a TV movie, our sister site Variety reports.

To refresh your memory: The original Legends, which was hosted by Kirk Fogg and ran from 1993 to 1995, pitted six pairs of kids against each other as they tackled physical and mental challenges, all in the hopes of making it to the final round, where they ran through the dizzying (and sometimes terrifying) obstacle course that was The Temple.

Similarly, Nickelodeon’s scripted revival will follow three siblings who must conquer a series of hurdles to remain alive. Isabela Moner (100 Things to Do Before High School) will star in the film, which will also integrate game show staples like the Temple Guards, the Steps of Knowledge and — of course — Olmec.

Legends of the Hidden Temple is slated to air in late 2016. In the meantime, Nickelodeon is developing a made-for-TV Hey Arnold! movie, set shortly after the events of the June 2004 series finale.

  1. Daya says:

I was SO obsessed with this show when it was on. I hope this is a good movie!

  2. I loved that show…but I don’t get it. Why make this a movie? It would be better if they made it a rebooted game show.

  3. Mr. Tran K says:

Nickelodeon should have made the Legends of the Hidden Temple reboot back as a game show and not as a TV movie. Wish they should have brought back classics like Double Dare, Finders Keepers and Nick Arcade among others to reboot.

  4. James says:

There better be the Shrine of the Silver Monkey somewhere in there.
“ohhhhh he’s having trouble with the monkey! everyone knows how to do the monkey!”

  5. Chris says:

Excited gasp….followed by disappointing exhale. Can’t these people revive one thing from my childhood without screwing it up?

On that note-bring back Carmen Sandiego (unless it’s going to get this treatment, in which case don’t bother)

    • They have been trying to do a Carmen Sandiego movie for years.

As for Legends, the problem this could face is that the the whole asthetic of the original has to be balanced with looking sleeker for a TV movie

    • iHeart says:

I’d rather that Carmen didn’t get a reboot, because well if that happens then PBS will take the episodes that are on youtube off it.

    • Mr. Tran K says:

Totally agree about Carmen Sandiego. Really hope they should reboot the classic PBS game show that ran for five years from 1991 to 1995. The host of that show Greg Lee is alive but Lynne Thigpen who plays the Chief did passed away back in 2003 when she was on The District that starred Craig T. Nelson. Did watched those classic Carmen Sandiego episodes on YouTube.

Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? would actually work as a movie. This, I’m not so sure about.

  6. Epazote says:

Not sure about this whole movie business. I’d rather see people get jumpscared by temple guards and struggle with ladders and monkeys. At the very least, I hope they use some of the old music.

  7. Ryan says:

Was so excited. Would’ve tuned in for new shows, even in my 20’s because that show was amazing…….but a movie? I am really not feeling a movie.
