Superstore Renewed

Superstore Renewed for Season 2

NBC has extended Superstore‘s lease, renewing the America Ferrera-fronted workplace sitcom for a second season.

Season to date, Superstore is averaging 7 million viewers and a 2.1 demo rating in Live+7 viewing, making it NBC’s most-watched rookie comedy in two years.

“We’re thrilled to renew a show that’s so incredibly funny and relatable, full of great characters who are brought to life by an amazing cast and creative team,” Peacock entertainment president Jennifer Salke said in a statement. “After such a successful first season, we look forward to seeing more of the wonderful America Ferrera, Ben Feldman and the rest of this hilarious cast in Season 2.”

The pickup comes just hours after the series aired its Season 1 finale.

this is fantastic news! love that show—awesome characters.

  3. Bwhit says:

Yes!!!!! First comedy I have religiously watched on NBC in years. You made my day :)

  4. Agata says:

Great news! I was really sad when I find out that yesterday’s episode was season finale. Hopefully it will get more episodes.

  5. Lola says:

    YESSSSSSSSSSSS! This show is hilarious!!

  6. e. says:

Do we know if its a 24 episode pick-up or just another 10 episode gap closer?

    • TD says:

It would be rare for a full 24-episode season for a show this young. The typical pattern is a 13-episode renewal and then hope for a “back 9” full-season pickup. (Most shows are 22-episode seasons these days, though some are extended to 24.)

  7. Hipper says:

I’m glad. I was thinking it’d get lumped in with ‘Telenova’ since it came and went together, but nice to see it wasn’t.

  8. thisismenow says:

Love this show! Very happy with the renewal!

  9. Liz says:

I was just checking the Renewal Scorecard for Superstore’s status not even an hour – great news!

  10. Timmah says:

Yay! This and The Grinder are the only sitcoms I watch.

  11. Mak says:

This is good news…Now if only they can make America Ferrera’s character likable…she’s the female lead but she’s also the weak link…Jonah & the supporting characters are incredible!

  12. Heather says:

What does this say about Telenovela’s future?

  13. JNorris says:

Superstore improved consistently through its run, and America Ferrara is a great anchor for its looniness — but my joy won’t be complete until Telenovela gets a pickup. Eva Longoria clearly has no fear and few boundaries as a comic actress, and keeping these two shows together makes all kinds of sense for the network.

  14. GuessWhat says:

yay — this and Telenovela were my guilty pleasure/dumb shows
we all need some of those on our plate

  15. Mak says:

I hope Telenovela is renewed as well

  16. Kelly says:

I’m happy with its renewal although a little confused about how they’ll make it work given how the first season ended. Like others I hope Telenovela also gets renewed. I enjoyed both of these new shows and actually laughed while watching them. There are plenty of other so-called comedies on the air about which I cannot say the latter.

    • TD says:

It will obviously go back to the way it was, though there may be a few cosmetic changes. The situation will clearly not be permanent. Such dramatic “cliffhangers” are just that.

  17. HAP says:

Seems to me that NBC is struggling a bit. The ratings for Superstore were in the anemic range, but substantially higher than Telenovela. The fact that only one of the two shows got a renewal at this point bodes ominously for Telenovela.

  18. matty says:

Very glad for this news! any word yet on Telenovela?

  19. Yes! I love this show so much. It’s the first comedy I’ve watched live from the start in years.

  20. Mr. Tran K says:

That’s great news. No word yet on the fate of Telenovela.

  21. John Davis says:

Amazing. I love Superstore and Telenovela.

  22. Carla Krae says:

yay! A show we liked on NBC actually got a second season? My other half will be shocked.

  23. lindasays says:

    Thank You NBC

  24. Marci says:

Thank you, NBC. I love this show. Now if you’ll just do the same for Telenovela, I’ll be very happy.

  25. Finally! So happy for this!

  26. nadialus says:

This just made my night! Usually the sitcoms I like get cancelled so I wasn’t holding out much hope! Any idea when we might get the second season?

  27. Kam says:

I was so scared that it was going to be the last episode last night, but this is great news! I hope good news comes for Telenovela too. That show is hilarious!

    • Jake says:

Agreed, this show is terrible. Not funny in the least. Saw parts of episodes a couple times and the writing is just bad. A character tips over a rack with a forklift and knocks over everything in the store room – HA HA not.

  29. Joey Padron says:

Happy the show got renewed fo season 2! It’s good and funny show and the cast are good on the show.

  30. Nero tTVFiddler says:

Just curious – I wonder if this renewal (and some of the other renewals on the drama side) say anything about the quality of the pilots NBC has in their possession for Upfront pilot season? Would NBC be quick on the draw to renew series (particularly freshmen series) if they felt their pilot season would be phenomenal?

I’m probably reading more into this NBC move than they intended…

  31. Leanne says:

you have got to be kidding. tv is doomed

  32. Hannah r says:

    So excited!

  33. jody says:

Yay!!!! Just watched the final show of the season and so glad it’s been renewed!

  34. Amanda says:
