Stephen Amell on Legends of Tomorrow

First Look: Arrow's Stephen Amell Brings Future Oliver to DC's Legends

It seems time has done a number on Arrow‘s Oliver Queen.

Stephen Amell shared the first photos of his upcoming visit to spinoff DC’s Legends of Tomorrow as an older, goatee-sporting version of the character.

“Get up old man,” the actor captioned the image on Twitter, which features the hero kneeling as someone stands over him. A second picture on Facebook, which includes the caption “Old feuds die hard,” suggests the mystery man is Deathstroke. Another photo on Twitter teases the introduction of Connor Hawke, son to Oliver and the second Green Arrow in the comics.

In the episode, Rip’s team members crash into Star City circa 2046 and discover what will happen to their home if they don’t stop Vandal Savage — and it ain’t pretty. In a nod to his appearance in the Dark Knight Returns comics, future Oliver will also be missing his left arm in the hour, which airs Feb. 25 at 8/7c on The CW.

When the team first encounters “hard, jaded” Oliver, “He’s got a gun on us — so it’s not a happy homecoming,” Caity Lotz tells TVLine with a laugh. Nor is it an expected one. “Everybody thought he was dead [by 2046],” the actress shares.

Check out the first look below, then hit the comments with your thoughts on scruffy Oliver.

  2. Evan says:

I am thankful Arrow went against comic book canon and skipped the goatee because holy jeezus that is ugly. Really excited for this episode anyway.

  3. Grace says:

i hate that they would do something that makes the arrow series seem like a waste of time. what’s the point in oliver fighting for star city in 2016 if 30 years from now he ends up jaded and alone? it just seems like an odd way of shooting themselves in the foot. i hope they establish that this is but one potential future for one timeline of ANY oliver queen. if they make it seem like this is the inevitable outcome then i’m not sure what the point is in having Arrow be on the air anymore. it makes it all so doomed.

I am on set as we type, chatting up the cast about it. All will be explained in a story to come ….

      • Betty Taylor says:

When will the story be posted? Can’t wait!

      • Phoenix5634 says:

Seriously? You get to go on the set with the cast? That’d be pretty cool! Do you get to do that with all 3 shows, go on the set and meet all the cast? …So how much exactly do you know about what’s going to happen? Do you already know who Zoom is, and who’s in the grave? I know you can’t tell me the answer, but can you tell me whether or not you know?

By the way, tell them they’re all doing an amazing job, love all 3 shows!

Also, next time you see Grant Gustin tell him he’s awesome, and his latest episode with his E-2 self is hilarious, when he woke up this latest episode after our Barry kidnapped him was hilarious! Actually had me laughing lol. Also I really wish he was starring in the future Flash movie, I was really disappointed when I learned it wasn’t him.

Does “chatting up” have a different meaning in America from the UK…?

        • Mallory says:

well, that depends…what does ‘chatting up’ mean in the UK? in US it means that you’re talking with the cast. Chatting is informal way of saying a discussion. Now, I’m curious to know if it means something different in UK! haha :D

          • Katie T says:

Chatting means the same in the UK as it does in the US. Chatting up means when you’re talking to someone and are interested in them and trying to get them to get with you in a date/relationship type way. Lol

    • Vlada Gelman says:

This is what would happen if the Legends team doesn’t succeed in their mission. So it’s the worst case scenario that they’re trying to avoid. It may not be Oliver’s future.

    • Carla Krae says:

It’s a possible future. Not the definitive end.

    • Joey says:

You, uh, do know this is a show about time travel that has already dealt with the consequences of screwing with the timeline, right? This Star City is not THE Star City. It’s a Star City that has gone to hell because of something the Legends did or didn’t do. Remember, they were shot out of the time vortex thing and crash landed in Star City 2046, meaning they never go to their true destination. That very event could lead to a whole bunch of terrible things happening that the Legends didn’t end up stopping.

    • 134sc says:

I read they crashed in an alternate timeline, so in that regard I guess it is a “potential future”

    • Weezy says:

Great point Grace. Of course when it comes to making money, I doubt the network overlooked this fact. I’m sure there will be some convenient narrative to ensure this isn’t the case.

    • J says:

Oliver’s been trying to save Star City since Arrow started and now we know 30 years from now nothing has changed. I wish they would just wrap up that played out storyline and move onto something else because I swear that’s been the plot since the pilot. Either let him save his city(even if it’s just for the time being) or move the story in a different direction.

  4. Joey Padron says:

Good first look photos of Oliver’s episode on the show. Excited to see the episode next week!

  5. Michelle says:

Old Oliver on the workout ladder would be awesome.

  6. Phoenix5634 says:

Anyone else wonder if Oliver lost his arm in Malcolm’s revenge?

  7. Phoenix5634 says:

Where’s Mick in the photo? And lol Oliver, nice goatee

  8. Tutuche says:

Perhaps it’s diggle’s son (or daughter) who raised by Oliver.
