Ben Vereen Joins Fox's Rocky Horror: Broadway Vet to Play Dr. Everett Scott

Fox’s Rocky Horror Picture Show remake just added a(nother) Broadway star to its ranks.

Tony Award winner Ben Vereen — famous for his performances in shows like Pippin and Jesus Christ Superstar, as well as for being Usher’s godfather — will play Dr. Everett Scott, the science teacher-turned-UFO investigator who arrives at Dr. Frank N. Furter’s castle looking for his nephew.

Vereen joins previously announced cast members: Orange Is the New Black‘s Laverne Cox (as Dr. Frank N. Furter), Eye Candy‘s Victoria Justice (as Janet), Ryan McCartan (as Brad), Glee‘s Adam Lambert (as Eddie), Penny Dreadful‘s Reeve Carney (as Riff Raff), Game of Thrones‘ Staz Nair (as Rocky) Masters of Sex‘s Annaleigh Ashford (as Columbia), Grandfathered‘s Christina Milian (as Magenta) and original Rocky Horror star Tim Curry (as the Criminologist Narrator).

His lengthy small-screen resumé includes roles on How I Met Your Mother, Hot in Cleveland, Silk Stalkings and the original Roots.

Boo! Nothing against BV but ever since the announcement of Curry’s casting I was kind of hoping they’d announce Barry Bostwick as Dr. Scott.

  2. Terry says:

This line up is getting better and better. I was hoping Adam Lambert would accept the lead role when it was offered to him but Eddie is good too. But so happy with all the casting – Reeve Carney is excellent and having Tim back in it is a bonus.

  3. Reba42 says:

Is Tim Curry still in a wheelchair from his stoke? I was thinking him for Dr. Scott. I hope he’s been practicing his Time Warp, since the Narrator actually dances, and Frankenfurter didn’t enter until after the Time Warp.

  4. Debbie says:

Not to detract from the immensely talents individuals they have amassed for this performance, but it is beginning to look as if this production has been engineered rather than cast. I don’t think there’s a single demographic that’s been overlooked.

    • Maria D. says:

I know, really! I guess they were pandering to the auto-tuned, former Mouskateer type actresses when they cast Victoria Justice. My kids watched her Nick shows and she’s neither a good singer nor actress and yet someone was kissing up to the white heterosexual demographic. How dare they! And who is this Ben Vereen? Just because people are complaining about diversity in Hollywood doesn’t mean they should cast an African American actor! It’s not like he’s won Tony awards, or been in Emmy award winning TV shows. Oh, wait….nah, just another less qualified person of color stealing a role from some greatly lauded actor who wants to be on Fox.

      • Dorothy Hastey says:

        Check the facts Maria
Ben Vereen won a Tony award for “Pippin” on Broadway and is a multi talented performer, actor, singer, dancer. He’s starred on Broadway in many shows and is indeed a living legend. Please check out his biography.
