American Girl Dolls Get Live-Action Specials, Possible Series at Amazon

Sorry, Barbie — American Girl just stole the headlines from you.

Amazon announced on Monday that it has inked a multi-year deal with the Mattel brand to produce four live-action specials, with the option to develop a series based on the popular collectibles.

Two specials will revolve around characters from American Girl’s BeForever historically inspired franchise, with a third to feature characters from the contemporary Girl of the Year line.

The first special is scheduled to premiere on Amazon Prime Video in the United States, UK, Germany and Austria later this year.

“American Girl resonates strongly with kids and parents alike through its message of self-confidence, adventure, exploration and learning,” Amazon Studios’ kids programming chief Tara Sorensen said in a statement . “Their research dives deep and adds rich layers to the IP that are unparalleled in this space which, in turn, will facilitate a truly enriched on-screen experience.”

Does that mean they are also remaking the TV movies already done for Felicity, Samantha, and Molly? As long as I finally get my Addy and Kirsten movie, I’ll be happy.
