Grease Live Didi Conn

Grease: Live: Original Frenchy Didi Conn Shares the Stage With Carly Rae Jepsen

Now this is what we call a “very strategic career move.”

Didi Conn, who famously donned Frenchy’s pink wig in the 1978 movie version, made a special cameo Sunday in Fox’s Grease: Live opposite — you guessed it — the new Frenchy, Carly Rae Jepsen.

In case that’s not full-circle enough for you, Conn was playing Vi, the waitress who lends Frenchy a sympathetic ear, which leads into the iconic number “Beauty School Dropout.” Here’s a little photo to refresh your memory:

Conn’s small-screen resumé include roles on Transparent, Law & Order: SVU and Happy Days. She was also a series regular on the ’80s sitcom Benson and the children’s TV series Shining Time Station (1989–1993).

Did you love Conn’s special appearance as much as we did? And what did you think of Frenchy’s new song, written just for this production? Drop a comment with your thoughts below, then click into our gallery to grade all of Grease: Live‘s big musical numbers.

Comments are monitored, so don’t go off topic, don’t frakkin’ curse and don’t bore us with how much your coworker’s sister-in-law makes per hour. Talk smart about TV!

  1. KC says:

    Did – Great!
Song – Terrible lip syncing. Isn’t this supposed to be “live”

  2. Phun says:

Nice to see the original Frenchy make a cameo.

  3. Joann says:

I loved that Didi was opposite Frenchy, but did they have to add that song? Or was it in Carly’s contract that she get a solo? Not true to the original play or even the movie. Say what you will about NBC’s efforts, at least they are true to the original material.

  4. CK says:

Carly has been killing it, but that song was an unfortunate turn.

  5. Kim says:

In all honesty I didn’t like the song. So far it’s not bad but they needed to stick to the original songs. Like with Grease Lightening it was reworded. Glad to see Didi in the live version.

    • Sarah says:

The reason they reworded that song is because it was slightly too vulgar and kids were probably watching. Also if you think about it her solo song adds a lot. It explains why the angel came.

  6. Michele says:

Great Sandy- Julianne, but there is only one John travolta. This guy does not ooze sex appeal!

  7. Ryan says:

I actually enjoyed the song, but it felt completely out of place in the production. I thought that it was far too modern for a musical that’s supposed to take place in 1959.

  8. Jojo says:

I think the musical was amazing…great job everyone!!! I loved every scene.

  9. Nice millenial says:

    Loved it

  10. Nancy says:

My favorite part of Didi’s scene was her very obviously missing the light switch.

  11. Sarah says:

The song was fine, but she can’t sing. It was SO nasal!

  12. Drew says:

The new song didn’t fit the show at all, and ruined the flow of the story. Other than that, great show!

  13. Linda says:

Funfabulous!!! Love everything about the live broadcast!!!🤗

  14. Deedeeharkins says:

Great to see the original Frenchy!

  15. Kathy McMahon says:

Good to see Didi in this latest production! Hope you had fun!!!

  16. Kathy McMahon says:

How did you feel seeing another do your original part. Hope you had fun!!!

  17. Diana Ramirez says:

I’m not I liked the new song for Frenchy. I’m not sure it fit in the right time period. I’m not sure if it sounded too contemporary because of the arrangement or the singing style. It was a beautiful song but I’m not sure it fit.

  18. Miguel says:

I really enjoyed it…2 thumbs up!

  19. Ronnie says:

We( my girls & I) were excited and thrilled to see Did Conn! However, Did’s original scene/everything- were way better. 😞..we were disappointed! With this. The song sang seemed to be way off point.

  20. Terina Lee says:

“Love it! Love it!” I was hoping that Oliva Newton John and John Travolta played a cameo as Sandy’s and Danny’s parent’s that would of been great to see. I glad Didi made a cameo!

  21. I think they also forgot to mention that the original Doody in the movie was the TV producer. (or am I the only one who noticed that)

  22. lhasterlik says:

didi was great!! So glad she got to be in it I thought the whole cast was great! enjoyed it

  23. No John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, but they were watchable. Vanessa Hudgens said she was surprised to be cast as Rizzo but she was amazing

  24. stephen rogers says:

i was shocked when i first saw this i was like”Hold on that cant be…” and sure enough, its almost like a Grease flashback seeing Conn in grease live
