Debate Ratings GOP No Trump

Ratings: GOP Debate Steady Without Trump, Apocalypse Begins OK for NBC

Fox News’ coverage of the latest Republican presidential debate on Thursday night drew about 12 million total viewers, on par with last month’s GOP face-off — even though headline-monger Donald Trump sat this one out, instead amassing about 3 million viewers with his off-site event.

Elsewhere in the ratings….

NBC | You, Me and the Apocalypse debuted to 5 million viewers and a 1.2 demo rating, on par with The Slap’s year-ago launch in the time slot and besting the Heroes Reborn finale (3.8 mil/1.0). The Blacklist (7.2 mil/1.6) was steady, while Shades of Blue (6.5 mil/1.3) dipped a tenth.

THE CW | Legends (2.9 mil/1.1) and The 100 (1.6 mil/0.6) each ticked down a tenth from their premieres.

CBS | Leading out of a rash of reruns, Angel From Hell (6.7 mil/1.4) held steady, as did Elementary (6.1 mil/1.1).

ABC | Beyond the Tank (4 mil/1.1) and the diet show finale (2 mil/0.7) each inched up a tenth.

FOX | American Idol (8.8 mil/2.3) dipped a tenth week-to-week.

My Diet is Better Than Yours is WAY better than Biggest Loser. Hopes it gets another season.

  2. Ninamags says:

Legends of Tomorrow was fantastic!!!! The special effects are amazing. I am really liking this show.

  3. Mr. Tran K says:

Legends of Tomorrow is one of the best mid-season shows this year and it’s destined to become a breakout hit for the CW. As for Angel From Hell, don’t know why people care about the Jane Lynch led sitcom (start complaining if you dare).

    • Coach Taylor says:

Oh Ill dare….guess you can’t go a week without complaining about it, its only TV my dude

      • thisismenow says:

Mr Tran K is our resident troll. Just nod your head at his rantings and smile. He’s like a puppy. Barks and viciously growls, but is harmless.

        • Mr. Tran K says:

I’m NOT a troll and you don’t know much about me 100%. You people better stop acting like BULLIES and don’t ever hurt my feelings like that or I’m about to throw a temper tantrum.

      • Mr. Tran K says:

Even though you go by your “name” Coach Taylor, does mean you watched Friday Night Lights (not referring to the movie version).

    • Tana says:

CW already has a breakout hit and it’s The Flash. LOT ratings are good and on par with Arrow.

      • Patrick says:

A net needs a new “hit” essentially every year. Even the CW, which only has 10 hours of primetime. Its unlikely that a show will maintain its success over a long period of time a la SPN or Smallville. Many shows, even hit shows, air for 7ish years at best, at least in today’s market. Arrow and Flash are hits, for sure, but DC may call those IPs back to film at any time, and that’s assuming Ammell doesn’t become an action movie star and bail on the show in 2 or so years. Flash is a hit, for sure. But its relatively expensive for the CW, and the costs are only going to go up as the show ages. Will it be around in 5 years? Who knows. Every net needs new hits, every year, or it could find itself in trouble in a few years.

    • Luli says:

Then you should watch the 100, cause that is their best mid season show.

  4. Herbert Ivan says:

Clearly a false report by media. Second lowest is not steady lol. How media lies is so patently is assign of how dumb they believe the public is.

    • Matt Webb Mitovich says:

Hi, “Herbert.” The comparison was versus the most recent debate, as clearly denoted. (The question going into this debate was: Will Trump’s absence hurt ratings? The answer: Not by much.)

      • BoboTheRaven says:

Fox News is available in 28% more households than Fox Business – stable total viewers is a distinct loss of share, and obviously a decline in interest. About 3 million people who could have watche (had the option vs when Ir was on Fox Biz) decided to skip Fox News, which roughly equals the 3m that watch the Trump event on other channels.

It’s not stable in any meaningful mathematical way. It is stable in a Fox News, PR-spin manner.

That said, it’s a lot better than Trump hoped it would be…

        • Matt Webb Mitovich says:

I was told this job would not require meaningful math. Oh well. Everyone read what BoboTheRaven claims above!

  5. IMHO says:

Cruz looks so CREEPY in that picture ! He looks like the Joker in Batman
I think people tuned in to see if the debate would be an even bigger train wreck without Trump.
Personally I’m happy to read up the next day.
I’m not ready to hear the BS that comes with an election year.

    • peterwdawson says:

It’s really kind of been the cycle of creepy candidates hasn’t it? On the Dem side you’ve got Hillary whose smile has always felt kind of creepy and Sanders who looks like a stereotype of eccentric older men (if his hair was longer he’d totally be a frumpy Doc Brown). On the Republican side you’ve got the walking I don’t even that is Trump, overly-curly Rand Paul, guy who could be a mob boss Chris Christie, disapproving female boss Carly Fiorina, half-asleep creepy giggler Ben Carson, and then whatever the hell is up with Ted Cruz (I’m going to go with always trying to pose for a possible tapestry in progress).

I watched the Apocalypse show. I think it’s supposed to be a comedy, but I laughed a total of ZERO times. It brought on an amused smile ZERO times. Given how busy my viewing schedule is and how bad the pilot episode was I’m probably not going to give it another chance.
