American Idol: Kelly Clarkson to Return — Simon Cowell, Maybe Not

Your very first American Idol, Kelly Clarkson, will be a part of the reality competition’s farewell run.

Clarkson will serve as a guest judge and perform in February’s first live telecast, executive producer Trish Kinane shared on Friday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. That likely will be the limit of the pregnant singer’s involvement, given her upcoming due date.

Some other Idol winners will participate in duets with finalists during the middle rounds, Kinane added.

It’s also a possibility — though perhaps less so — that the original judges’ panel of Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell will reunite for the show’s swan song. Cowell, in particular, will have to work around his upcoming gig as an America’s Got Talent judge, according to Kinane.

“I appreciate Simon’s part in the history of the show,” she said. “[But] there are huge scheduling issues. The most we can expect is for Simon to be at the finale.”

Added host Ryan Seacrest: “I imagine you’ll see all the original faces at some point.”

Hopefully Simon will have insurmountable ‘scheduling issues’ – it’s best for everyone of he doesn’t show up to ruin any more Idol than he already has.

    • Timmah says:

Ruin it? He was the only judge the show ever had that was worth watching.

      • Paul says:

I totally agree Timmah. Once Simon Cowell left the show, it’s been a poor imitation of its former self.
I hope his scheduling conflicts won’t interfere and he comes back with more than one fleeting appearance.

      • Temperance says:

Ruin it. Full stop. Like he financially ruined so many of these people in their early careers. Ugh.

No Randy, please. And all of you criticizing Kelly Clarkson’s weight? What’s with the making fun. You all gorgeous human beings, nothing wrong with any of you?. No one likes being overweight and when you’re 5’1″ and pregnant, it’s easy to get that way. She’s exceedingly talented and great fun.

I’ve struggle with my weight my whole life, no one cares what I look like and it doesn’t affect my job. When you are a performer on Television you are judged by your looks, yeah it aint fair but it’s reality. She has tons of cash and can afford a trainer, a cook and dietitian there’s no excuse for looking like a blimp. I get it,it’s mean, the struggle is real but then stop going out and performing on TV if you can’t take it or just ignore it which I’m sure she does. It’s the internet folks, people are savages.

She’s already pregnant again with baby two! Stupid people! She’ll be back in tour shape and In shape when she wants to do it! She’s been busy trying to be a Mom. Shut up about weight. We All are not model Thin and fit either. Leave Kelly Clarkson alone! She’s still awesome!
