Hugh Laurie Drama Chance Picked Up for Two Seasons at Hulu

The doctor is in (deep doo-doo) at Hulu.

Hugh Laurie‘s drama series Chance — based on Kem Nunn’s novel of the same name — has scored a two-season, 20-episode order at Hulu, launching in 2016. Our sister site Deadline broke the news.

Laurie (House, M.D.) will play the titular role of Eldon Chance, a forensic neuropsychiatrist who embarks on an affair with a femme fatale suffering from multiple personality disorder — only to learn her ex-husband is a dangerous homicide detective.

Chase’s behind-the-scenes team will include Laurie and Nunn — as well as showrunner Alexandra Cunningham (Desperate Housewives, the U.S. version of Prime Suspect), producer Michael London (The Astronaut Wives Club) and director Lenny Abrahamson (Room).

Since House ended its eight-season run in 2012, Laurie played a pivotal role on Season 4 of Veep and filmed AMC’s forthcoming event series The Night Manager.

Looks like Hulu is finally going to get me as a customer.

  3. kath says:

I got really tired of him as House (and sick of House) so hearing that he’s playing a doctor again doesn’t make me want to tune in.
I thought multiple personality disorder was pretty much written off by the psychiatric specialists.

Very excited to see this! i wasn’t sure Hugh would want to get back into a weekly series, but this sounds intriguing. Hugh on Hulu!

  5. @MiraLandLives says:

I’ll watch because Hugh Laurie but a doctor again? A show names after the titular doctor character again? The first time he snarks, it’ll be like watching House again…

It’s called Dissociative Identity Disorder these days, not Multiple Personality Disorder.

Thank you, I was going make the same post. The name of the disorder was changed to be more accurate like Bipolar/Manic Depressive.

  8. Steven says:

I wonder if he’ll get to keep his British accent.

After watching House and the Night manager, I’d watch anything with Hugh Laurie in it. Wish there could be more of the night manager. All parts were extremely well done.
