Willard Scott to Retire from Today

After 65 years with NBC, broadcast veteran Willard Scott is retiring, Today announced Friday.

The former weatherman has had a presence on the morning program since his semi-retirement in 1996, when he was succeeded by Al Roker.

Before his 35 years with Today, Scott got his start as an NBC page.

“He is literally my second dad,” Roker said in a tweet from the show’s account. “I love that man.”

Scott will be honored during his last appearance on Tuesday, Dec. 15.

God bless him – he must be almost old enough to appear in one of his own birthday segments?

Well-deserved. Willard is one of the best personalities on television, no matter what the genre.
Well wishes to him in retirement. Now I’ll wonder who will wish Centenarians Happy Birthday.
    We will miss you, Willard.

  4. I thoroughly enjoyed him, he is kind all the way through. He comes across as a godly man. He never meets a stranger. I love the 100th birthday club, we will all celebrate that mark.

Willard was the original Ronald McDonald. At 81 (born March 7, 1934), he still has a way to go before joining the Centenary Club. His warm personality will be missed on Today.
