Empire Ratings Series Lows

Ratings: Empire and Survivor Slip to Series Lows on Thanksgiving Eve

Fox’s Empire saw its numbers get gobbled up by Thanksgiving eve traveling and planning, slipping 19 and 30 percent to 9.1 million total viewers and a 3.1 demo rating — series lows on both counts.

Opening Fox’s night, Rosewood (4.6 mil/1.2) shed a few eyeballs plus three tenths in the demo, also hitting series lows.

Over on CBS, Survivor‘s double-pump averaged 8.2 mil/1.8, down 10 and 14 percent to series lows for a non-reunion episode. With a beefier lead-in, Code Black (7.6 mil/1.4) rose 15 percent and two tenths, hitting best-since-premiere numbers.

NBC’s The Wiz Live preview special did 2.8 mil and a 0.6, while an SNL Thanksgiving clip show did 3.8 mil and a 1.1.

Well, Empire sure does deserve those ratings after what they served up this season.

  2. The Beach says:

Most shows would still kill for 9.1/3.1 ratings but I have to agree that this season has been a bit of a mess. The writing is getting soapier all the time and they are trying to bring in too many “guest stars”.

    Really loving code black..

  4. wrstlgirl says:

Hope those people who are Survivor fans at least recorded last night’s eps because they were two of the best yet. Fantastic season!!

  5. Gerald says:

That was some good game play on Survivor last night. Glad I watched it.

  6. kmw says:

Why would FOX put a new Empire on the night before Thanksgiving? Their ratings were down because everyone is getting ready for Thanksgiving. A couple of other networks knew better than to run new shows last night. Pretty big drop but I expect Empire will come back with much better numbers next week. However good for Code Black especially since Survivor was also down. Whether or not Empire is not doing as well they are going to( most likely) have a 15 week lay off and it will be interesting to see what they come back to on March 30th

  7. That’s not surprising as most people were traveling to granny’s house etc…….

  8. MFL says:

What’s FOX thinking…airing a new Empire episode on TG eve…these numbers should not shock them!

  9. I thought fox wasn’t going to be reporting nielsen ratings anymore?

  10. MyExBFF says:

Not sure you can blame Empire’s drop on travel. The writers have completely lost their way and seem to have no idea what the show should be…which is sad. A show that started off with brilliance has fallen into cliche and stereotype. And they are wasting a tremendously talented staff.

  11. zac says:

Those SUrvivor fans have better DVRd last night’s episodes. It was good and heartbreaking for us fans of the ones blondsided (esp. in hour 2)

  12. Don’t blame Thanksgiving for Empire’s decline (wouldn’t Code Black’s numbers be down?) just because you don’t want to face how sucky this show is!

  13. lenora says:

Boo Kitty is not poor. Do they think we did not watch the show last year. Overload of guest host make the stories disjointed. It looks like they are going to different studios to film around all the guest host. They are about to lose this viewer.

  14. DavidSask says:

Damn at Empire’s downfall, still going to proceed with that sequel?
