American Music Awards Ratings

Ratings: American Music Awards Dip Slightly, The Simpsons Surges

ABC’s J.Lo-hosted American Music Awards was down but by no means out.

Sunday’s telecast drew 11 million viewers and a 3.5 demo rating, off only slightly from 2014’s 11.6 million/3.8 rating. It easily marked ABC’s highest-rated Sunday of the season.

Elsewhere…

CBS | Madam Secretary (10.6 mil/1.4) slipped three tenths, The Good Wife (7.8 million/0.9) dipped two tenths to fall below a 1.0, and CSI: Cyber (6.2/0.9) rose in viewers while steady in the demo.

FOX | Buoyed by its football lead-in, The Simpsons (5.6 million/2.3) more than doubled its demo rating vs. its last fresh episode, while Brooklyn Nine-Nine (3.9/1.7), Family Guy (3.3 million/1.6) and Last Man on Earth (3.3 million/1.6) posted nice increases as well.

NBC | Sunday Night Football (16 mil/5.6) slipped 10 and 14 percent from last week’s fast nationals.

Aren’t some of these changes really extreme? Happy for Brooklyn 99 but this, on the surface, makes no sense. Any ideas??

FOX’S numbers are football related. Ouch for The Good Wife. With most awards shows that will always give them better numbers than they normally do especially on a Sunday. Actually nothing really surprising except Good Wife going fractional, maybe it will adjust up

I never realized that many more people watch Madam Secretary over The Good Wife. Not that I have a problem with it, as I find MS has much better quality this season and is definitely much more interesting than TGW.

  4. MiaB says:

Wait, aren’t MS and GW fans always complaining about football cutting in to their programs. Sunday it didn’t (at least not here). Those numbers are what you get without it. You should be happy …

Thats great news for Last man on Earth. I am fine if they dont pick up a back nine and renew it for season 3. A show like this may do better with 13 eps a season. Funniest show on tv right now imo.

For the first time in years I purposely missed an award show and I have no regrets! :P

  7. Ginger Snap says:

Takes an award show to make ABC relevant on Sunday night.

A comment that doesn’t make much sense given that Once Upon a Time, while in decline, is often still the highest-rated scripted show on Sunday night.
