Lost in Space Remake

Lost in Space Remake Lands at Netflix

The Tanners and the Gilmores aren’t the only TV families coming to Netflix in the near future.

In a competitive situation, a reboot of the 1965 cult series Lost in Space has landed at the streaming giant.

The original comedy, which ran from 1965 to 1968, centered on the Robinson family as they attempted to colonize another planet in deep space — a mission that was sabotaged by a foreign secret agent and caused their ship to get knocked off course.

According to our sister site Deadline, the updated version is an epic (but grounded!) sci-fi saga about “a young explorer family from Earth, lost in an alien universe, and the challenges they face in staying together against seemingly insurmountable odds.”

Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (Dracula Untold) will write the project and exec-produce with Kevin Burns, Neil Marshall and Marc Helwig.

No word yet on when the reboot will hit Netflix. Will you be watching when it does?

Comments are monitored, so don’t go off topic, don’t frakkin’ curse and don’t bore us with how much your coworker’s sister-in-law makes per hour. Talk smart about TV!

  1. I don’t believe Lost in Space was ever a comedy but did become campy later.. It was quite serious during it’s first season. It did lightened up when Dr. Smith became a buffoon and foil to the Robot and Will Robinson.

  2. DanielleZ says:

This should be interesting. I don’t think anyone can scream like Dr. Smith. He and the Robot were the best part of the show.

  3. Gordon Rick says:

As long as the robot does a good “Danger Will Robinson! Danger!” I am in!

  4. Kat Johnson says:

You know what, I am totally here for this.

  5. Big Mike says:

    Matt LeBlanc or no buys.

  6. Jess says:

Depends on who they cast. I actually liked the Matt LeBlanc movie

  7. Richard D. Irving says:

Who needs a remake of Lost In Space?! There was a movie version of that show in 1998, and it was entertaining, yet unfaithful to the original series. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

  8. jr. says:

If Billy Mumy is cast as an older version of Will Robinson, I’d have to finally try Netflix! But if it’s unknown actors who will recast, not so interested.

  9. Matt says:

Lost in Space was NOT a comedy. It may seem like one now but it was not when it came out. Also, the family was sent to colonize a planet but Dr. Smith sabotaged the ship causing them to drift from planet to planet trying to find their way…thus the name LOST in space! Five lousy minutes doing some RESEARCH on Google for your story would’ve been helpful. I swear journalist these days absolutely suck.

    • charles sylvan says:

“journalist” are few and far between, especially those that cover real news, so give the kid a break. No Robbie No Watchee.

  10. steven fogle says:

I will we watching the remake of lost in space!! Loved that show!!!!

  11. Bark Star says:

Lets see on what show the sets for this remake will end up.

  12. Wellesley72 says:

No, no, no! Not another reboot. What ever happened to originality?

  13. Melora says:

I expect a Billy Mumy cameo!

  14. HayManMarc says:

I’ll check it out, but if it’s really dumbed-down sci-fi, I probably won’t watch it. If it stays away from adult sexual situations, maybe I can watch it with my kids. I’m not getting my hopes up.

  15. David4 says:

Of all the shows to remake…

Of course BSG was remade and 45% of it was amazing, so what the hell.

  16. Timmah says:

I’m normally not a fan of remakes, but I have to say this one kind of intrigues me for some reason. Plus Netflix has not made too many missteps.

  17. Keith says:

Netflix has scored again! I cant wait. But PLEASE do not make this campy, I sincerely hope that make it dark ala Battlestar Galactica.

    • Temperance says:

Dark? No, no, no. Modern? Yes. We don’t need many more ‘dark’ shows – we’re overloaded now (of course, some shows just have to be that way, but there needs to be room for some excellent sci-fi that isn’t unrelentingly grim).

  18. Angus says:

Comedy??? I don’t think so. Danger TVline Danger.

  19. Jim says:

I have season one on DVD. I agree with other comments, Lost in Space is not a comedy. Are there plans to bring the original series to Netflix Canada?
