Grey's Anatomy Bill Smitrovich

Grey's Anatomy Casts Life Goes On Dad as a Therapist — But Whose?

Help is apparently on the way for one of Grey’s Anatomy‘s unbalanced MDs.

Acting vet Bill Smitrovich — whose mile-long, TV-packed resume includes roles on Life Goes On, The Practice, Without a Trace and, most recently, TNT’s The Last Ship — will guest star in an upcoming Grey’s episode as (rumor has it) a shrink.

An ABC rep confirmed Smitrovich’s casting, but declined to provide any further details. However, according to sources, the 68-year-old will turn up in Season 12’s 10th episode as an “easy, funny, kind, fatherly” therapist.

The obvious beneficiary of Smitrovich’s sage counsel is still-grieving widow Meredith, but Grey Sloan is, of course, a breeding ground for dysfunctional docs. Perhaps he will serve as a mediator between feuding physicians Owen and new doc Nathan (Martin Henderson)?

Who do you think — or, more importantly, hope — Smitrovich will be counseling? Theories are currently being accepted in the comments!

Comments are monitored, so don’t go off topic, don’t frakkin’ curse and don’t bore us with how much your coworker’s sister-in-law makes per hour. Talk smart about TV!

lol They all need therapy. Every single one of them. Hell even we need therapy!

  2. LC says:

My first thought is Amelia. Girl is losing it!

  3. Alwayshappyz says:

Probably for that new Doc and Owen, or for April/Jackson. Could also be for Meredith, or Amelia.

  4. Bazinga says:

First thought was Amelia but maybe some Japril couples counseling? I hope, they never really seemed to deal with their loss together.

    Bring back Dr. Wyatt!!

I like him, but I liked the lady from Field of Dreams so much!

Amelia and Jackson for sure. She flies off the handle so easily and it’s going to cause her grief. And Jackson because he and April went through so much to be together. She still loves him and I can’t imagine that he doesn’t love her. His feelings are hurt and he needs to get over it. Owen could use a few sessions because he’s not completely over Christina yet (neither am I) and if Amelia gets even a WHIFF of that, she’ll ditch him. She needs him to keep her grounded. I don’t think Meredith needs it so much, although if they don’t show her kids soon I’m going to assume they’re up in the attic and she NEEDS therapy! :)

  8. Dark Defender says:

Time to get Jo into therapy… to save her character. Either her or Amelia. It could go either way. As for Meredith, she is the most adjusted of them all.

  9. Paula says:

Jo and Alex definitely need some help!

  10. tahina says:

Owen for sure. PTSD came back.

  11. matty says:

My thought was also Amelia. But it could very well be for anybody, perhaps Jackson and April finally go to marriage counseling?

  12. Ashleah Youn says:

He’s totally going to be a marriage therapist for April and Jackson.

  13. Eran says:

The series is crying out for new, not so young male blood. I’d love a bit of McDepthy again. How I wished Peter MacNicholl’s character had stuck around. He brought such interesting energy and dynamics to every scene, being as difficult as he was, though never ridiculously so.

  14. grace says:

It can be April and Jackson , Meredith, owen and nathan or just owen … Or maybe Amelia … Since meredith told her to get out of her house maybe she had envy to take drugs … All the Greys sloan’s doctors are dysfunctionnal so it can be everybody

  15. grace says:

Or Arizona … cause she wants to get over Callie

Owen’t therapist holds the award for Most Unethical Therapist on TV.
If GA is going to keep writing therapists, I wish they would get some expert advice.
