Ricky Gervais Golden Globes

Ricky Gervais Returning to Host the Golden Globes in 2016

After taking a few years off from hosting the Golden Globes — much to the delight of easily-offended viewers everywhere — Ricky Gervais will return to emcee the ceremony in 2016.

The star of the U.K.’s The Office hosted from 2009–2011, before making way for the Golden Globes dream team of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. News of Gervais’ comeback was formally (yet sneakily) announced Monday in a tweet from the Globes’ official account:

“We’re excited to have Ricky Gervais back to host the most enjoyable awards show of the season in his own inimitable way,” NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt said in a statement. “Disarming and surprising, Ricky is ready to honor — and send up — the best work of the year in film and television. Fasten your [seat belts].”

The 73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards will air Sun, Jan. 10 at 8/7c on NBC.

Love him and his British humor

Would much rather see Tina and Amy host again.

  3. Steve F. says:

Be afraid, Hollywood. Be very afraid.

(Even if his last Golden Globes stint was a bit more tame than the year prior.)

  4. Luis says:

If it can’t be Tina and Amy, I’m glad it’s Ricky

My favorite by far. I’m kinda tired of Tina and Amy.

  6. Mr. Tran K says:

OH BOY. Guess there’s a reason why you should skip the Golden Globes because of Mr. Gervais. :-(

  7. Abigail says:

Keep ’em humble, Ricky! I love this man….he is right on target. I love Tina and Amy too, but if they cannot return, Ricky Gervais is a wonderful choice; it will be great to watch him make Hollywood squirm again.

Andy, I don’t want to sound like a Comic Book Gal, but Ricky hosted in 2010-2012

  9. Marci says:

As much as I loved Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosting the Golden Globes, I’m delighted to have Ricky back. Maybe they could switch back and forth.

    WOO-HOO!!!!

  11. LT says:

Ricky should be locked in for the Globes…Neil Patrick Harris for The Tonys…and the Emmys and Oscars can find who’s best each year.

  12. Sara says:

I’m excited by this! I was hoping they’d go back to Ricky Gervais.

  13. Win says:

Haha – and here I thought Ricky Gervais works hard to offend. I’m disappointed in his work ethic. ;P

  14. Hipper says:

Him and the Tina/Amy duo should switch off every year. That’d be a dream.

  15. Larc says:

    Tired of his shtick.

  16. Irvin says:

Have no issues with Tina and Amy but Ricky was hilarious when he hosted the golden globes. I felt bad for the celebrities but Ricky pretty much said what we think but don’t say in people’s faces because we have tact. The celebrities didn’t know what to do at one point. Then they tried to revolt against Ricky. I loved it.

  17. MFL says:

I love that he holds nothing back…every celeb is fair game…I’m loving this!

    Good.

  21. Lucifer says:

Good. Tina and Amy were great the first year, mediocre the second, and stale in the third.

  22. YM says:

Does this mean Tina and Amy will be back in 2019?
