The Republic debate still trounced the Democratic debate even if it was record setting. That is a win for The Donald…. unfortunately.

Comparing these rating numbers with the Republican debate, this is, in my opinion, a really big win for the Democrats. Yes, the Republican debates averaged about 9 million more viewers. But the vast majority of people only tuned into the Republican debates because Donald Trump is like a freaking circus, nothing more than a reality show star who says stupid, offensive things. People watched strictly for entertainment and comedy, not because they cared about what they had to say. However, whether you agree with Dems or not, everyone knew that the Democratic debates would be way more grounded in policy and social issues–even Republican analysts admit this. So, having reached those kinds of viewing numbers knowing the debate was going to be more focused on the issues, to me, reads as a huge win for the Dems. It means people actually care about listening to what they have to say vs. the Republican debates, where people only tuned in for the comedy and a good laugh from the name-calling circus participants that were on the stage.
