Deadliest Catch Captain Dead Tony Lara

Deadliest Catch's Tony Lara Dead at 50

Tony Lara, a captain on Discovery Channel’s reality crab-fishing series Deadliest Catch, died Saturday. He was 50.

The Associated Press reports that Lara died in a private home in Sturgis, S.D. The town’s annual motorcycle rally was being held at the time.

Lara’s cause of death was not immediately known; Meade County sheriff Ron Merwin said an autopsy would be conducted.

On the series, Lara captained a ship called the Cornelia Marie. He appeared in six Season 7 episodes.

“We’ve lost a member of the Deadliest Catch family,” Discovery Channel said in a statement to Fox 411. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family in this very sad time.”
