Lee Daniels Fox Star

Fox, Empire's Lee Daniels Team for Music Drama Pilot Star

Fox and Empire co-creator Lee Daniels will make more beautiful music together, with a new drama pilot set in the music business.

Titled Star and set in Atlanta, the series is “set against the backdrop of the music business from a very different perspective” than Empire, Fox CEO Dana Walden announced Thursday at the television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills.

Specifically, Star is the story of three young women, all with hopes of making it big, and the choices they’re faced with along the way. It will showcase the allure and heartache of the cut-throat music scene, while also exploring cultural themes from a new perspective.

Given the shared creative and thematic DNA, “The possibility of a crossover [with Empire] exists,” Walden allowed. “But that’s not Lee’s intention going into it.”
