Happyish Cancelled

Happyish Cancelled at Showtime

Well, here’s some news that won’t make Happyish‘s Thom Payne any less depressed: TVLine has confirmed that the Showtime comedy will not return for a second season.

Originally a vehicle for Philip Seymour-Hoffman — who filmed an unaired pilot before his death in 2014 — Happyish eventually starred Steve Coogan as Thom, a downtrodden advertiser forced to accept that he might never be fully happy in his life. As you might imagine, this was wonderful news to his angry artist wife Lee (Kathryn Hahn).

TVLine’s Cable Renewal Scorecard has been updated to reflect this news.

One of the best and smartest shows of the last few years, shame shame shame.

  2. BCsDave says:

Disappointed, but not surprised. Its a show about depression and trying to make it funny.
Had its moments but wasnt leading to anything. The major plot (spoiler) was Thom leaving his job to write a silly book, only for his wife to get pregnant and him have to return to his job.
    Not exactly riveting tv.
The dialogue was its best thing. Intelligent conversation with big words you dont get with the majority of tv shows. Was good writing, just not knowing where to go with it.

Perhaps “Skidmark Jesus” was a bit too much?? It’s too bad…the show was growing on me.

  7. TerryJ says:

Sneaky SHowtime waiting to see if Happyish got any Emmy nominations before cancelling it. My husband & I loved this show. Surprised it was cancelled considering Sho has so few comedy series.

  8. Steven says:

When was the last time Showtime cancelled a series after the first season?

  9. CGJ says:

One of the best shows on TV…very sad and disappointed to see it go. Thanks Showtime!

  10. Good show and I’ll miss it, but only 13 comments in 2 days says a lot to why it was canceled

Me and all my friends thought happyish was right on the money and want to see it put back . The show was so true to life for us blue collar workers

  15. Noreen Stone says:

HAPPYISH was one of the best, most innovative shows on TV. Smart, delightful, out of the box, wonderful performances. I just Googled it to find out when season 2 would begin only to find out it had been cancelled. Shame on you, Showtime! This is a terrible blow to all of us who loved this show, not to mention all the brilliant people involved.

  16. Amy Pauley says:

The hubs and I just discovered Happyish and freaking love it! We’re sooo bummed that it isn’t being renewed. It sucks to find a show that is smart, funny and reflects the BS most people deal with in the workplace and with being parents.

  17. M. Mazz says:

F**K ME! “HAPPY-ISH” CANCELLED? Finally there’s one really well written, well-acted show out there for intelligent people…so of course it’s cancelled. It’s theme was strong: We’re all in this a**hole world together. But the mothership will one day come. So hang on! This show was reality fiction! It was so hot that I wanted to have sex with it! The network blew it! F**K SHOWTIME!

  18. Yes I was anticipating season 2 of happy ish another gem in the rough like the show bored to death!

  19. Jackie says:
