Sonya Walger The Catch

Lost's Sonya Walger Replaces Bethany Joy Lenz in Shonda Rhimes' The Catch

Shonda Rhimes has completed the final piece of recasting on her new ABC drama The Catch, tapping Lost vet Sonya Walger to replace Bethany Joy Lenz in the series-regular role of Zoe, TVLine has learned.

Zoe, the wife and partner in crime to Kieran (fellow recast Peter Krause), loves her husband and loves their life — amoral though it may be — and she’s going to hang on tight as she senses him slipping away from her.

The Catch — which is set to bow at midseason — centers on Alice, a successful fraud investigator (The Killing‘s Mireille Enos) who’s about to be the victim of fraud herself by her fiancé Kieran (Krause). Between her cases, she is determined to find him before it ruins her career.

The Catch brings Walger back into the Shondaland fold following her two-episode arc on Scandal last season. It also reunites her with her Parenthood co-star Krause.

Hannibal scribe Jennifer Schuur penned the pilot, which is based on an idea by novelist Kate Atkinson and Helen Gregory.

    Parenthood mini-reunion!!

  2. Viv says:

Holy crap, this show has fired how many people how many times now?! Bad juju… I can’t even really tell what its about — why even watch the trailer, if it’s filled with all the people who aren’t going to be in it?

    • Wordsmith says:

Just two recasts, as far as I know, and one recast clearly motivated the other, as they have to be a believable married couple. I think you may be catastrophizing this fairly common TV phenomenon…

    • tabularasalocke says:

They’ve recast 2 people who are supporting characters. This happens all the time in pilots.

  3. colleenharris1979 says:

Yes please!! This is the most perfect recast combo in a long time. They fit together and fit the show ensemble so much.

  4. Mr. Tran K says:

Great to see Sonya Walger back in the ABC family as does Peter Krause. Hope The Catch is going to be another Shonda Rhimes hit if people can’t complain about it.

  5. mariangela says:

They went with more mature cast! I lost interest on the series went Bethany Joy Lenz was recast, but Peter Krause peek mine interest to watch the pilot but maybe not the entire season…

  6. Al says:

Loved her!! The acting is going to be on fire!

so which part is Shonda doing or is she just slapping a produced credit and getting all the praise instead of all the people doing the work? she obviously can’t write all four shows but she’s treated like she does all the work

anyways i’m glad of the recasting seems way more age appropriate

    • Mika02j says:

It’s her production company as with How to get away with murder she has clearly stated she doesn’t write the show.

    • Without Shonda’s name, the show would probably never have been picked up. Shonda is creating a production house, where she mentors up and coming writers and producers. This is how they break into the business.

Can’t wait for this show awesome recast

  9. Nero tTVfiddler says:

Sorry to see Lenz leave the series, but happy that Walger has joined the cast. Pilots are made to sell series and get them green-lighted, but not necessarily to formulate the final product in weekly series form.

What we’re seeing now is that process in action – the adjustments being made to get the series into the necessary structure for weekly production.

Congratulations and good luck to Sonya Walger – she was one of my favorites in Lost. She was also quite good in the series ‘Tell Me You Love Me’.

  10. Sheldon W. says:

Sonya Walger’s presence can only be good for the show. (I’ve loved her since TNT’s first Librarian movie eons ago.)

  11. Lauren says:

Man, Bethany Joy Lenz can’t catch a break. I really want her back on tv, someone make it happen! I’ve watched all of Shonda’s shows (although both Grey’s and Scandal have dropped off my watch list) but not sure about this one.
